i guess we will wait to get slapped down and rebuked again by the big boys.. no point in small, no name places like ours trying to rewrite the playbook. if a model law exists, be assured the big boys, will accept nothing else, thats why they write these model laws, to throw you some hints...
isn't it strange how when a politician talks nonsense, another colleague has to say what he meant to say? he said what he said, and i'm certain he meant it exactly how he said it. many of them, current and former politicians, are absolutely convinced that they should be treated differently from me and you.
scary thing to contemplate.. NHI supposed to be a viable alternative to private insurance for who cant afford. not yet fully implemented and look at the situation as it exists today... IMHO, we dont have sufficiently extensive and adequately staffed and equipped facilities to offer care to who needs it, when they need it. sounds good in theory, but reality is something else..
random checks is how the business operates.. how you think they catch pilots who were drinking too much just when they get to the airport? you need to offer bounties for people to turn folks in.. you need big fines and seizure of aircraft to drive the point home.. you need to charge the folks who paid to fly like they do the guys they catch on the corner trying to buy dope or solicit a prostitute.. lots can be done and laws can be passed to make thesr things stick, but at the end of the day, if no enforcement, then forget it. its scary enough flying bahamasair, dont know how folks risk themselves with these other guys..
Royal Bank used to promote themselves as the helpful bank.. i guess help themselves? actions have always spoken louder than words and its quite apparent now, if it wasn't already, that these institutions' only motivation is profit. nothing wrong with making a profit mind you, but usually good corporate citizens, especially one that boasts about how long they have been in the Bahamas, should also have some ethical standard that embraces a sense of responsibility and commitment to the welfare of its customers and employees too.
this is interesting.. first we say we dont need the foreigners, but when they prepare to cut and run, we start grumbling. then we say, bahamians need to invest in their own economy and future, so why wont BOB (which all of us have paid dearly for) and/or Commonwealth Bank (bahamian bank) move in to fill the gap? finally, how many forms will have to be filled and questions aswered when businessmen show up sonewhere with duffel bags of cash coz they could not put it in a bank and then be treated like money-laundering lepers? this is a crisis for the locals in these places..
i thought accident investigations were exercises based on facts.. if correct, then how can this MP suggest it is possible to 'muddy the water' or 'prejudice the facts'? either he was properly licensed or he wasn't. if the plane ran out of gas, thats an error on his part as i understand they should always have someplace else to go if they cant land. if the aircraft was not properly maintained, thats a fact. if some mechanical failure led to their deaths, thats a fact. so, talk about prejudice of the investigation is nonsense in my view...
there is nothing unreasonable about expecting people to pay their bills. these corporations have their own lawyers and access to advice from the AG's office i assume.. bottom line, if you dont pay, legal action should follow. see we all will pay one way or another coz when people dont pay and WSC can't get enough revenue, they go to gov't cap in hand and beg for whatever shortfall they have.. gov't provides the money, the national debt goes up and then we wait for new taxes to cover this mess...
don't know the point of this press release, but as i decode it, seems the message is don't expect any change and thats no surprise since its been like that since 1973!
