Bahamasair has contributed virtually nothing to the economy unless you consider the generous handouts to staff at taxpayer expense as a benefit. The time has long come for it to be wound up. it can never be viable and as in the case of Jamaica and Barbados for example, who have big tourism industries, you can get by quite easily without a home airline. And dont be fooled, those couple airplanes Caribbean Airlines flies, cant begin to adequately support their industry. For the entire Caribbean, the imputus behind these state airlines is mostly about the flag...
in small places like ours, the only way to develop real estate in prime locations is to go north e.g.Singapore and Hong Kong. apart from being a symbol of progress, high rise buildings bring usable space where investors want it as opposed to where you want them to go. high rise buildings with rooftop restaurants, condos, hotel rooms, nightclubs could reinvigorate town..
this saga demands investigation to determine how the Authority has come to be in this position. you can drive from Miami to Orlando on the turnpike for $20 - $30, a distance of more than 250 miles, and now potentially you could be looking at $3 plus to go 200 meters across the harbour? tell me it aint so..
there is some merit to what he says, no doubt.. cheaper place for tourists if we devalue, but lower standard of living for most of us, since we will be unable to afford many things we have today that are all imported. so whats our choice to be? remember that some 'expert' recently opined that at most the B$ is worth 75 US cents...
just because you can do something e.g. display party loyalty, its probably not too smart in a small society like ours. Even in the USA, Trumpites are trying to discredit everything and everyone ever affiliated with Obama or Clinton. on the other hand, as i am aware, in the Bahamas an employer does not have to give any reason to cut you loose. its just the way it is..
so a seller is motivated and you get a good deal.. Inland people say we dont believe it.. only in the Bahamas is the burden of proving anything on the accused and not the accuser..
