i can't fault these people for moving on to better things. you need to leverage your skills and experience to get the best life for yourself and your dependents. A post training bond is a good idea, if taxpayer money trained them, there should be some minimun service requirement. it wont solve the problem, just give us breathing space to find replacements. we can never match first world country jobs, so accept that and look elsewhere, like the phillipines, and hire their well trained people. such is the way of free societies where individuals make their own choices.

Bahamians are loyal patrons of Walmart each weekend, but if the opportunity arose to have one here, we don't want it? trouble understanding that. even a low paying job would be better than the current no-job environment. and if shares were offered, thats more than you can say about any of the current wholesalers... we bahamians are such hypocrites..

without speaking to the MD, i think we can safely assume Houston is a big financial drain on a company that is already challenged.. who knows bahamasair in Houston? what advertising took place? who is providing feeding connections? what airline group is bahamasair part of to get passengers from? etc., etc.

Bahamasair has contributed virtually nothing to the economy unless you consider the generous handouts to staff at taxpayer expense as a benefit. The time has long come for it to be wound up. it can never be viable and as in the case of Jamaica and Barbados for example, who have big tourism industries, you can get by quite easily without a home airline. And dont be fooled, those couple airplanes Caribbean Airlines flies, cant begin to adequately support their industry. For the entire Caribbean, the imputus behind these state airlines is mostly about the flag...

in small places like ours, the only way to develop real estate in prime locations is to go north e.g.Singapore and Hong Kong. apart from being a symbol of progress, high rise buildings bring usable space where investors want it as opposed to where you want them to go. high rise buildings with rooftop restaurants, condos, hotel rooms, nightclubs could reinvigorate town..

Socrates says...

OldFort might be right.. dont devalue, do away with the B$ and go with the greenback like Zimbabawe and Panama and TCI, etc.

this saga demands investigation to determine how the Authority has come to be in this position. you can drive from Miami to Orlando on the turnpike for $20 - $30, a distance of more than 250 miles, and now potentially you could be looking at $3 plus to go 200 meters across the harbour? tell me it aint so..

Socrates says...

there is some merit to what he says, no doubt.. cheaper place for tourists if we devalue, but lower standard of living for most of us, since we will be unable to afford many things we have today that are all imported. so whats our choice to be? remember that some 'expert' recently opined that at most the B$ is worth 75 US cents...
