i dont get their gripe... Atlantis, the 2nd largest employer in the country is foreign-owned for heaven's sake... small island states with no industry and resources cant survive without foreign investment.. all the food we eat cones from outside.. etc., etc... this is scare mongering and fox news type talk...
how is it we only get to this question after nomination and an election? if there are prerequisites to hold office, how is it candidates aren't required to present acceptable proof of fitness to serve BEFORE nomination and election? another example, in case we need one, of how backward we still are...
this is exactly why i have suggested the 'Defence Force' be abolished and reestablished as a Coast Guard to deal with this sort of thing. why the hell do we need a Defence Force?
i suggest gang members caught by police for breaking the law, get 6 months on Plana Cays or Samana Cay (furthest you can get from Nassau and still be in the Bahamas). let them live in barracks, grow their own food, etc. schooling from 7:30am - 4:30pm and no free time, structured schedule from wakeup til sleeping. see the results...
what is more troubling than gov't buying this place, is what it says about investors' perception of the tourism industry on GB inparticular and the country in general. if the view was positive, buyers would be queing to buy the place.
i'm more concerned with how this disease was introduced into the country.. we need to know in case more stringent requirements are needed at the borders or prior to issuing visas as appropriate...the Bahamas to my knowledge does not have a TB issue...
have to agree with an earlier poster on this... these folks make obscene salaries because they have a good Union and we had weak, shitty negotiators on gov't side who gave away everything, presumably for votes in the future.. i dont recall any mercy from them when they use to threaten/cut the power in december at contract renewal time, so i dont know why they should receive 'leniency' in so-called tough times.
well good luck to them. i believe PowerSecure left the blueprints, so they just need to follow. still dont know how the team, whoever they are, will overcome the reliability issues which have existed since the creation of BEC, or how they will address the major financial challenges all while reducing the cost of electricity... but again, good luck to them, they will need it.
doesn't gov't own bahamasair and is the aviation industry regulator at the same time? i dont recall Roberts saying anything about that when Butler raised the issue. Besides, Sands is not the ministry of health, he is just the minister and unless we have been taken over by elected dictators, Sands can make/set no policy on his own. i doubt Sands is cutting any other doctor out of a few dollars either since they say he one of or the only specialist of his kind locally.. so whats the beef really?
