i don't see government acting on this advice.. probably has to happen over time, but is history is anything to go by, i wouldn't hold my breath. Unfortunately, we have come to a stage in this country where there are no easy or simple decisions.. the time for that passed and we did nothing. Its only bitter medicine going forward... too bad....
as a former employee of the agency that prepared this report, Butler knows exactly what it is saying, but understandibly for public relations reasons, he has to try and rebutt it. The CVR and FDR cannot be manipulated as i understand and whatever is written in the company books the pilots either complied with it or they didn't. finally, the storm didn't just show up, it was there and you cant do anything about it except to not be in the same place. the only thing you maybe could say in defence of Sky Bahamas is that this could have easily been any of the other ones too...
i dont know much about Bethel, but i do know we bahamians, especially in matters connected with politicians, like to jump over people's head (if this is true) i.e. not follow protocol, when we have greivances. you get repremanded in the private sector for this kind of thing... you have to follow process and keep going up the ladder if you dont get satisfaction at each stage, but you dont jump straight to the top...
i hope one day we dont find ourselves in a similar position.. we bahamians are too arrogant.. i remember when Pindling and Hanna used to brag about how much better our financial position was compared to those down south, now look at us, debt to GDP almost 80% with no-growth, stagnant economy. our time is coming....
this man is a politician and you sometimes have to interpret his comments against that backdrop... but in this case, i have to agree with him 100%......
at our core we are a xenophobic people despite what many say.. there's a persistent but unfounded fear in my view, of foreigners taking over... if we bring them in properly, give maybe 12-24 mths 'education visas', when time expires they have to leave if their country is habitable.. if not, you revisit the matter and make another decision... we must always be mindful that a similar catastrophe could also be inflicted on us and we may wish to receive compassionate assistance, so as it is written, do into others as you would have them do unto you...
whatever our international obligations, if any, or sense of christian responsibility, we cannot afford it because we are broke. therefore they should ask for UN aid to educate these refugee children.. otherwise, follow donald 'mentally deranged' trump and deport these children to the home country of the parents...
they mention document expiration.. how does a customer who proved using a gov't document who he/she is at the time they provided the information, suddenly become a suspicious account holder simply by virtue that the document expired? if i was a bahamian with the last passport, am i not still not one after it expires?
u would be surprised at the number of bahamians, mostly union people, who believe the employer needs to justify a termination. as a writer has already correctly stated, by law no reason is required. it may be the employer us just tired of seeing your face or hearing your name . the only obligation is to pay you accordingly what is required. so it goes...
you have to be a complete idiot to do business with any 3rd world gov't ... they only seek these people out to pass the buck for responsibility and blame.. no 3rd world gov't ever gives authority to anyone, thats why they remain 3rd world. i don't know what powersecure was thinking... never a chance they would suceed.. no job cuts, no rate increase, no outstanding bill collection, nothing...
