shocking revelation by Miller.. didn't know businesses are supposed to be concerned about profit... can't wait for tomorrow's lesson.... wonder what his motive is for running his business(es)?
MOT subsidizing air carriers to this country is nothing new. because we have govt that operate in secrecy, people just dont know. millions to carriers to fly to Freeport and elsewhere ... all of this on top of the millions annually to Bahamasair.. this need to pay carriers to come to the Bahamas is the best proof of how Bahamasair has failed these past 40+ years in one of its mandates when it was formed... they cant do it all, but by now they should have developed so as to make a meaningful contribution..
there is nothing special about a bahamas hotel compared to similar properties south of here.. we have an operating cost problem due inflated wages and benefits and utilities... bahamar pricing brings competition to the market and forces employers to become more efficient.. visitors spend money on more than just the room, so if lower prices increase numbers, whatz the problem? nobody complains about increasing cruise arrivals, and they contribute almost nothing...
i doubt the corruption in Freeport is any worse than what happens in Nassau or anywhere else in the Bahamas for that matter, wherever a vessel or inbound bahamian first touches bahamian soil... as for Birdie, its because we bahamians dont assert our rights and speak up, that the god-like aura and attitude of politicians exist today and we had the likes of Gibson, Fitzgerald, PVC Bowe, etc., etc., and we can't forget Ramsey either of course.
i think its a bad idea and doomed for failure.. if it goes ahead, i hope its private money otherwise public debt will just spiral more out of control..
i dont think Greenslade has political interests, but based on comments from Dames well before the election about the RBPF, i'm not surprised if Greenslade is shown the door.. the book does say there is a time and a season for everything i suppose...
