there is ample competition in the local banking industry but clearly we consumers are not seeing the benefits suggesting collusion between the banks to set fees. Therefore we need gov't oversight including laws to prevent anti-competitive behaviour.
the onerous rules imposed by the imperialists are nothing less than modern day colonialism and intended to economically cripple small, 3rd world countries so they remain 3rd world and dependant on 1st world handouts that come with strings attached. its utter BS and we can't do much, if anything, about it.
government in the Bahamas is too big.. electricity company, airline, bank of bahamas, water works, tv and radio, etc., the level of funding required far exceeds gov't revenue given that everything they own needs support as they are all failures... need more private sector and less state control, otherwise, days of IMF control will keep getting closer...
i only have two concerns.. will these folks who were fleeced, expect gov't to reimburse them like the failed insurance company of some years ago? was this activity legal? if not, where is the Attorney General's office to bring the villans to justice?
it would be a welcome and pleasant surprise if, and i say if, Turnquest doesn't live to regret his words. . 'restore value' and 'turnaround' are not words found in any government dictionary... good luck!
what a jokey country.. the Reports are so irregular that the data is liable to massive distortion. Reports need to be prepared frequently for meaningful use and comparison over time, otherwise its just numbers saying nothing. if official statistics are 'suspect', what data is government and even the private sector supposed to base their future planning on?
Miller is not an objective observer, so his comments should be assessed in that context. secondly, we need better business reporting before we can truly understand what goes on... he gives a number for cost per/kwh, does that include fuel or not? we need real analysis of government corporation operations by disinterested 3rd parties (IF we can get access to all the financial matrix) before we can know what is better, worse or unchanged performance. absent this type of analysis, as far as i'm concerned all the commentaries from the various players are just opinions, nothing more, nothing less...
