we are a country devoid of imagination; intellectually bankrupt, with no ideas to energize our tourism industry.. i'm afraid there is little reason for optimism regarding any improvement in our fate for the forseeable future.. proof is in the numbers for last 20 years at least..
like everything in life, there are pros and cons.. we already hold the odious distinction of the longest ever application process, and we need more time? read between the lines manp.. if we cant complete an application procedure, imagine how much less we can compete with anybody.. reality is they all need to grow up. this is the world we live in and the New World Order thats been decided by the big boys.. get with the program.. either we join the club or get isolated..
the idea that runways create tourists is rubbish.. plenty bahamian islands had runways built using this line and most of them are still graveyards.. you could launch B52s from San Salvador on bombing missions but except for Club Med, nothing happening.. same thing in Arthurs Town, Treasure Cay, Inagua, Rock Sound, Governors Harbour, Freeport, etc., etc... in fact only Exuma could be called a 'success' but they had business when the old airport was in use.. nothing against LI people, but this project would just create more gov't debt. as for Water, nobody can complain about that since it is essential to human existence...
this all sounds very scary indeed.. hopefully we will get some clarity on this in due course.. no matter your view, as usual we the citizens can do nothing about this runaway borrowing other than express frustration and concern...
the time has come to allow citizens to carry concealed weapons for protection.. the crooks already have their firepower so what about us? they know most of us aren't armed now, but they would think twice if they weren't sure what the other guy had.. you can't stop crime but you can improve the odds for the victims..
dont know how viable this might be but FDI of this type is the only sort likely to succeed on GB.. no hope for tourist industry there in my humble opinion.. but this is the beauty of private investment, its not our money so if they fail, so be it...
europeans travel to Asia by the millions which is further away than the Bahamas.. if we can figure out why, then we will know how to attract them.. my personal opinion is we are too expensive and dont offer value for money, so they go elsewhere...
we need to remember that prior to the General election and quite commonly throughout the Caribbean, patronage and awarding of contracts and jobs, etc., was considered a by-product of victory accepted by all. so despite being ethically wrong, we didn't see it as such and it was practised to some extent by all...
you dont remedy corruption by giving more money.. that sounds like extortion.. you stop corruption with aggressive investigations, heavy fines and jail time..
