the problem with this is going to be finding trainable bahamians.. its a poorly kept secret that our schools are not exactly turning out truckloads of capable students.. but when that happens, they (gov't and the unemployable) will spin this known deficiency and say things like they (the investors) dont want to train/promote bahamians.. seen this movie before.. we are very good at playing the victim card..
this agency will continue to be perhaps the biggest stumbling block to economic development because 2 critical factors are out of control; cost per kwh (way too high) and reliability of supply (well below required standards). it appears after 50 + years they are unwilling or unable to do anything abiut either. btw, interesting how Maynard has become the BPL spokesman.. he even has more info than Osborne proving what i have always maintained, Unions are running the country..
so much similarity between how Ace and Minnis release info.. they must really watch a lot of FOX.... copying Trumps' modus operandus lock, stock and barrel..
i agree with Carey.. Kerzner created a brand, Atlantis, which became synoymous with the Bahamas.. contrast that with Cable Beach.. that development lacks imagination.. something could have been built that was unique and different and would have distinguished our tourism product from our neighbours and generated excitement.. but just a few square buildings, thats all. another lost opportunity...
the Donald Trump doctrine regarding the media must be contagious.. unless its Fox, its fake news according to Trump. The PM hasn't anointed any particular organization yet, but hey, its a democracy. some things you will like, some you won't, so it goes. when gov't starts setting the news agenda, it will be followed by censorship, then journalists getting locked up for stories that politicians dont like, etc. look to history.. there is nothing new under the sun...
regardless of conditions in Haiti, it was a 'temporary residence permit program'. anybody who doesnt understand the meaning of 'temporary' should invest in a dictionary. meanwhile, conditions in Haiti will always be difficult unfortunately, similar to Zimbabwe. Certainly not the fault of any of those affected by this. Notwithstanding that fact however, few if any countries accept economic refugees, Cubans being one of the few exceptions.
the argument put forward by the Minister is flawed. if you didnt need these people, they would not be reingaged. secondly, the pension is payable for service already rendered. i dont see what being reengaged has to do with your pension. just goes to prove i suppose, why salary and benefits information is meant to be confidential...
its a very challenging and stressful situation to lose a job. however, in this case the choice is do a few feel the pain, or do we continue the losses and hurt all bahamians with increased taxation to support loss-making gov't businesses? if you are not a socialist, then you have to agree the former sutuation over the latter choice..
we are a country devoid of imagination; intellectually bankrupt, with no ideas to energize our tourism industry.. i'm afraid there is little reason for optimism regarding any improvement in our fate for the forseeable future.. proof is in the numbers for last 20 years at least..
