'.. high cost and uncertain reliability of electricity; high unemployment combined with a limited pool of skilled labour; high labour costs and low rates of productivity; cumbersome and sometimes opaque administrative requirements; and an escalating crime rate'.. sounds pretty much like the Bahamas i know too. now that we know the challenges, lets do something about them...
i couldn't agree with Christie's politics but as a human and political patriot, i salute him and wish him well in his remaining years.. its important to distinguish man from politics.. sh#**y politician in my view, but noble bahamian..
sensible talk from the PLP side for a change.. he needs to tread carefully though.. i dont think the 'old guard' will appreciate a 'political babe' giving them advice.. but then again, he's in and most of them are not....
at the end of the day, we need FDI.. i cant conceive of any commercial conditions that may have been agreed that could be a concern... work permits? so what.. still bahamians employed who without bahamar wouldn't have a job.. which bahamians are investing in major projects? not one.. every single project of any size in this country was by FDI.. like Paul Adderley used to say, we bahamians are just buyers and sellers.. no more, no less....
another intellectually dishonest presentation. the govt just came to power so any borrowing is paying off debt left behind.. i didnt hear of any proposed initiatives that would require money.. in any event, its still a PLP budget..
The other Daily reported that Isaacs allegedly threatened physical violence against the Prime Minister. Bahamians are known for loose talk, but i think in this case the RBPF should bring him in for questioning and put him under surveillance for a period. We don't know if he has the means to carry out his threat but he certainly has motive. We need to bring law and order to this society..
if the idea is to protect bahamian business, then as outrageous as this sounds government will need to limit bahamians access to US dollars so they cant go to Florida and bypass bahamian businesses... again, thats if you say you are protecting bahamian business.. dont just pick a few tariffs... we will always have an obscene cost of living due this very kind of thinking...
the root problem continues to be a political system where every decision is ultimately made by 'the Minister'. why can't we have processes and laws to follow and when they are not, you go to court.. can't appeal too many Minister decisions....
