need to be careful with this Bahamasair plan.. people dont know Bahamasair outside the country.. Bahamasair is a lower than 'low cost' operator from a customer service perspective, and from what we have heard over the years, its a high cost airline, so a lot to think about... i imagine the cost to operate to Atlanta is a lot more than Freeport so if you fly empty the losses will skyrocket...
its not fair competition unless we are on equal terms... if i operate from my house but you have an office, staff, utilities, insurance, etc., etc., its not balanced. of course, we bahamians like laws but not enforcement, which is a big reason why we are where we are...
we dont seem to stand for anything in this country.. just like a little puppy, everytime some colonialists or their surrogates say 'jump', we respond, 'how high'...
taxation is a fact of life.. one of the reasons we are so deep in debt is because we dont want to collect/increase taxes where required, but we expect to keep spending more and more.. how is it we all understand why we need a pay increase, but govt doesn't need one (more tax income)? only the Arabs (according to google search) seem to be able to spend without taxation and even they will soon have VAT...
we happily borrow $300mil between RBDF and Bahamasair for luxury items like boats and planes, but can't see the sense in buying generators for electricity... unbelievable....
The $200m spent on patrol boats for the DF and the $100m guarantee for Bahamasair for new planes, not to mention all that money thrown at BOB, would have been better spent trying to provide reliable electricity in this country. Utility infrastructure is basic to development. but seems we can't grasp that basic fact..
Term limits for PM is an interesting one.. we don't vote for PMs, we vote for parties. So if a party wins and wants the same guy to lead however many times, are we now under our system of government, going to say you can't lead anymore because you already had 'x' years? Our system doesn't work that way, so this is one to watch. I think all these referenda are a waste of taxpayer money. just like the many Commission of Inquiries we've had over time, a lot of money paid, and at the end of the day, nothing changes..
