Socrates says...

The unofficial CIA motto says '..the truth shall set you free'.. if we want to get out of this debt trap, we have to let these sick state supported agencies go and stop being sentimental about it. some will sink and some entrepeneur will rise to replace them.. its the only way.. we just dont have the financial resources to continue down this hopeless path...

Socrates says...

the narrative seems to suggest the end to this story is inevitable. we dont have the creative or intellectual ability apparently to grow our country.. good at spending but brain dead when it comes to generating revenue.. definitely the only short term action would be more taxation, but while debt spirals out of control and we continue with zero GDP grow, the gov't keeps saying no new taxes AND elimination of others.. i guess all these years of the D- education standard is catching up with us and yielding expected results..

Socrates says...

no surprises here at all. both governments talk about rising debt, credit ratings, cutting expenditure, etc., and what happens? nothing.. we borrow more, spend more and keep throwing good money after bad.. i think the end to this story is glaringly obvious... we're headed for World Bank/IMF intervention. just a matter of time.. how can you keep spending what you do not have?

Socrates says...

i have to admit i'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but while the debt rises and we borrow more, we simultaneously cut gov't revenue through tax reductions... thats like applying brakes and pressing the gas at the same time.. u want to ho r stop? with the cheaper ice cream, pastries and chips, how will govt pay for the medicine for all the heart surgery?

Tourism has dreadfully underperformed relative to our regional peers, many of whom are enjoying booming business and its good the M of Finance made this point. we are so far behind and with the high cost, mediocre product offered, i wonder how MOT will address this major deficiency...

may all be so, but dont give too much credit to Gibson... anybody who ran there as an FNM would have won the seat for the same reason LBT lost...

need to be careful with this Bahamasair plan.. people dont know Bahamasair outside the country.. Bahamasair is a lower than 'low cost' operator from a customer service perspective, and from what we have heard over the years, its a high cost airline, so a lot to think about... i imagine the cost to operate to Atlanta is a lot more than Freeport so if you fly empty the losses will skyrocket...

Socrates says...

hope fox news doesn't jump on this after the verbal sparring earlier this year...

its not fair competition unless we are on equal terms... if i operate from my house but you have an office, staff, utilities, insurance, etc., etc., its not balanced. of course, we bahamians like laws but not enforcement, which is a big reason why we are where we are...

Socrates says...

we dont seem to stand for anything in this country.. just like a little puppy, everytime some colonialists or their surrogates say 'jump', we respond, 'how high'...
