Term limits for PM is an interesting one.. we don't vote for PMs, we vote for parties. So if a party wins and wants the same guy to lead however many times, are we now under our system of government, going to say you can't lead anymore because you already had 'x' years? Our system doesn't work that way, so this is one to watch. I think all these referenda are a waste of taxpayer money. just like the many Commission of Inquiries we've had over time, a lot of money paid, and at the end of the day, nothing changes..
'owe the country a full and frank explanation.' what strange words from Davis.. he didnt know the meaning of any of this during the last 5 years.. like Bob Marley wrote, 'observe the hypocrites'...
we should be cautious with this 'new' style of political leadership which appoints persons who openly state they are potentially hostile to your policies.. by definition, political appointees are supposed to be faithful suppporters of party doctrine and policies as you rely on them to sell these things... social activists and their kind have a role to play in our system, but from outside.. i think seeds of potential confusion are being sown in the zeal to appear overly democratic.. could backfire..
all of this shows that really small states although politically independent, in reality have little control in matters the 'big boys' consider important. its their way or the highway. and its not just the Europeans,... note uncle Sam just posted the most recent list of money laundries and (not surprisingly given the heavy chinese presence here), quite naturally we were on that list too..
i would recommend that Davis and all citizens who dont like to see the police do their job, watch episodes of COPS to see how its done. overwhelming force my friend.. its not a game..
these initial rumblings from DPM sound like we should prepare for 5 more years of the SOS.. bloated civil service, hanging onto worthless, debt infected corporations like Bahamasair and ZNS, throwing good money after bad at BoB, etc.. we may have to await 'salvation' from IMF. oh my...
Gibson sounds like a 'Rollins type'. Dr. Minnis would be well advised to keep an eye on him. Clearly he had expectations that weren't satisfied or dare i say, a sense of entitlement because he represents LI. tell him to sit small, be quiet and try to learn to creep before he tries to walk.
Politicians appointed as Ministers dont miss swearing-in ceremonies.. do you attend college 4 years and then not go to graduation because you had something clearly more important already planned? something very significant led to his absence.. the public have a right to know what...
i have never understood the need for a Defence Force. a Coast Guard for fisheries enforcement, drug traffic prevention and illegal immigration would be enough. govt revenue in a country this size is inadequate to support the tremendous expense associated with a Defence Force.
