why not offer to share a percentage of the sums looted as an incentive to whistleblowers.. times are tough and all the administrative staff who know the who, what, when, where and how can save us a lot of time and money investigating and get something for themselves in return..
we are not the united islands of the Bahamas.. there is one government, one consolidated fund where all the money goes and from where its also stolen.. we have one parliament.. thats the way it is.. i've lived in the small island villages.. nepotism and corruption is an epidemic.. if you want something, lobby your MP.. make him/her do their job.. isn't that why you voted for them in the first place, to represent you?
i dont think there is anyone in this country above the Grade D academic level who is unaware of the mess we are in financially.. yet, more borrowing, no cutting cost, no closure or selling of all the government owned failures, no initiatives to grow economy.. only plan apparently is to pray we dont have a hurricane.. my God...
problem can be mitigated by 60 day amnesty to surrender any illegal firearm e.g AK 47 and unlicensed firearms. if course these are the gangster's tools so dont expect them to respond. then back to the days of 4:00am house raids where you suspect them to be and random traffic searches day and night indefinitely. if caught, $10,000 fine and 10 yrs in prison.. or how about mandatory death sentence? they have it in Asia for drug trafficking and they dont seem to have a drug problem...
comments like these from arguably the biggest non-performing Minister of Tourism in the history of the independent Bahamas, help to explain why so much money is spent by MOT while visitor numbers remain flat and our neighbours flourish....
so if you cant negotiate a rent reduction, stop paying, let the bill swell, then get your reduction through the backdoor by agreeing to pay if they write off 1/3 of what you owe.. what masters of corruption we bahamians are.. a few questions about this... who was responsible for accounts receivable at NAD? what did they do as this bill started to swell? where was the Board finance and audit committee while all this happened? who lost their job because they weren't doing it?
Miller is wrong on this.. never in the history of this country have we ever had reliable and affordable electricity..NEVER.. i dont know why it seems to be such a mystery here.. certainly elsewhere, people seem to be able to keep the lights on and they have above ground cables, storms, etc.. what a mystery...
i would not hold my breath for anything significant to happen.. how many millions was spent for example on Commissions of Inquiries and how many people were ever prosecuted as a result? a few folks will have their names put in the paper, they will come up with creative excuses and that will be it...
this is the problem with BIG government.. we need privatization on a wholesale scale to stop this influence peddling/corruption which is practised by both sides... in the process reduced public spending and debt reduction will benefit all taxpayers...
good decision by AG.. we small outsiders need some protection from egotists using the public platform and privilege of parliament to possibly slander us.. me and you say something we can't prove and we are in great jeopardy.. in a democracy, that principle needs to apply across the board regardless of status..
