Save the Bays is a registered, U.S. approved, 501 (c) 3, charity. It is illegal for such charities to make political contributions and all this smear campaign about political contributions from Save the Bays is just a weak attempt to cover up the PLP's knee bending, corrupt support for Peter Nygard, who has committed serial illegal and environmentally damaging acts in the Bahamas. Birdie, as the self proclaimed leading patriot of all the Bahamas you should be ashamed for toting the party line on this subject.
Sadly, ThisisOurs, it is a lot more than that. He has already cost taxpayers over a million, all because he did not properly carry out his official duties (something he has finally admitted) by denying his pal the right to table quite obviously stolen and illegal material in clear violation of the Constitution. A scandal of the first water. His blithering is just more cover up for PLP incompetence and corruption.
When the Nygard payback by his cronies is fully disclosed, where will Brave hide. He can't go to the States. Maybe he and Fred can hide out in the Castro Brothers Paradise.
That campaign mode was going for the full five years of the Christie Administration. It prevented release of the report on BAMSI; Chinese sale of Baha Mar; Marathon Oil Spill; Serial oil spills at Clifton and the nature of the insider deal on who sells the bunker crude at inflated prices; why the numbers referendum as ignored; and myriad other matters that would have been addressed if only "campaign mode" was not in full swing.
When will the lesson ever be learned. Having the government own and operate enterprises for the primary purpose of employing Bahamians is a terribly inefficient way to support the local population. Let private enterprise run enterprises. If necessary tax those enterprises to raise funds to distribute to the needy. That way at least the money goes to those who need it, not insider multi millionaires or persons scamming hundreds of thousands a year in illegal dipping. The government should privatize everything that is not an essential government service that can only be delivered by government. That means all but public education, police, defense, and infrastructure.
This is a request for a fairy tale. No government anywhere, anytime, downsizes staff and tightens operations. Privatization is the only way to induce efficiencies into such enterprises.
You can't get kickbacks unless you sign big deals. Let's have a contest to pick what percentage of these "off budget" payments ended up in some PLP's pockets.
