Or maybe these "lights" have another function too.

RealityCheck - you are right - and that is my point. Government with these loans are doing the same thing. They are spending money we don't have. The same way we cant do another 8 percentage points on VAT - here they ARE doing it but we don't see it (yet) because it's a loan. It's magic invisible money. The majority of the public think it's a good thing.

That's because they don't have to pay for it "now".

But they ARE paying for the loans taken out by Pindling and in Ingraham's first term. In those days a can of cream was 65 cents. Now it is one dollar and 8 cents. That higher price is not because cream costs more or has taken on some intrinsic improved quality. It is because our money is worth less due to "quantitative easing". Look it up, if you need to.

These loans are death. Yes, death. Pollution, cancer, selling of children to be sex slaves, all the same. Same root. Same puppeteers.

Now we are on the brink of nuclear war with China and it is the samw thing. The same cause. But nobody really cares.

Here in the Bahamas, especially not. Here "everything is cool". Here we "thank God for life". No problem mon.

Why is every project financed by a loan? We have no tax revenue?

I would be agreeable for VAT to go to 20% if it meant we would never do another loan. Jesus.

"...Pastor Victor said it had left the case “just sitting in the courts” with no attempt being made to move it forward."

Who left it sitting in the Courts? The Court can give either party - either side - a deadline to produce whatever documents or do whatever is the next step.

What is the exact wording of the most recent Order by the Court? If there is no Order then URCA should sent representatives in to West End with the police and start disconnecting meter boxes. GB Power will jump quick then to ask the Court for an Order and then we will get to read it.

How many suicides have we had in Freeport over the last 10 years? People living in cars.

Christmaa haa been canceled this year due to high VAT, high rent, and high light bill. I simply refuse to celebrate it.
Just this Saturday i was walking along Robinson Road and this old lady in a kindly tone wished me a Merry Christmas. I struck her right in the mouth !!!
I understand the police and her two adult grandsons are all looking for me :-)

As for this article in particular, if only 300 people in Grand Bahama care enough about high power bills to take a moment to support this coalition, then GB deserves high power bills.

Government should add an extra $2/kwh tax to GB power bills. Why? Because the people just don't care.

HonestTruth ... wow ... oh sorry. They caught ONE. Guess that makes all the hell and another 80,000 Bahamians have gone thru - being treated like beggars and criminals every day - all worthwhile.
You know you can't cash a cheque at a certain well known bank unless you have account with them? Used to need 2 IDs - but now they just tell you NO. The people behind the counter know you, they know where you live, they eat at the restaurant you work at and serve them lunch. But now suddenly you are a nobody - they can't KYC when it comes to you.

If this is the kind of world you desire and celebrate then good for you. Enjoy. But honestly, why mess up our world. Why don't you just move to Myanmar or Sudan or some other insane place and there you can be happy.

"...the extra burden imposed by The Bahamas’ new anti-financial crime regime."

What's truly amazing is you NEVER hear about anybody being arrested on charges of money laundering or funding terrorists.

They might as well say you have to jump through all these hoops because we are trying to protect the Easter Bunny from Godzilla.

"...were expected next month, and estimated that it could generate between $40-$50m in extra annual revenues"

An amount not even worth talking about. We have much bigger financial problems to worry about.

Sometime i wonder if these fellas think they won a raffle and the prize was a 5 year all expense paid vacation.
