I love the details too, but all those nice details they are saying are second priority to building 2 more berths. Once again, Bahamians are last in a line which never call the last person. New line always starts before we get up to the counter, and we get placed last in the new line too. This here is such a new line.
It would just magnify the exact same situation. What is the point of bringing MORE 1 hot dog and 1 t-shirt tourists? Also can't you see that instead of fixing up the wharf which WE need, they are choosing to first fix up the docks which THEY need. This is not to help us.
If you buy a house that is in disrepair (like maybe a bank foreclosure) and the fridge is rusty but works, the washer & dryer work but are dented and scratched, the roof is fine and does not leak but the shingles look old, but 4 of the windows are busted and bugs come in at night.
Which would you fix first?
Most people??? The windows. These investors??? The roof.
Can we please stop making drug related arrests in Grand Bahama???
The economy there is terrible. People need drugs to cope daily to avoid suicide.
After the government gets the Port Lucaya hotel open and doing well and after the East End cruise ship terminal is operational and after the airlines that left resume operation and after somebody takes a pressure washer and does a crazy cleaning on all the moldy buildings all over downtown and after people can get their mail at the post office THEN maybe think about blaming the people for turning to drugs.
Until then, the govt is causing drug use then prosecuting the people who do it. That's entrapment. Very unfair. God will judge all.
"...The first thing is we think we can add two new berths for ships bringing 5,000 to 6,000 passengers. That’s the first thing we can do. We are definitely going to increase the number of passengers.”
that's the problem. The first thing they want to do -admitted here above, is to add (build) two new berths. That's PLENTY money and plenty time - meanwhile we Bahamians sit around remaining beggars.
All the nice sounding talk about fixing up the wharf evaporates after they made that statement.
They say a tram in the dock itself, but no mention of trams to go up and down Bay & Shirley from Nassau Street to Harbour Bay giving free transport to tourists.
This sounds like a sham to scoop money in a big berth building contract which will drag on and on and five years from now the warf will still be full of scrappy buildings, potholes, drug pushers and babbits.
Mr. Turnquest, this information is totally useless to us - because you will not give us information about our money. How much do we owe, to whom, what payments were made, when?, what interest has been added - how much on what dates, current balance, revenue income from which sources by month, expenditure by classification and account each month, current bank balances in the name of the government, nib information, investments held by the government, etc, etc, etc.
So basically, nobody cares about these silly little articles. If you said for example this afternoon that you found $40 million under a garbage dumpster that belonged to the people and you're going to put in directly into the treasury tomorrow morning - that information is useless because it is not in any context. 40 million might be a lot, might be jack compared to our overall financial portfolio.
Look up that phrase "financial portfolio". It is available in most basic financial texts. That's what we want to know about. Thank you Sir.
That's just it. "We" are fine with it. The majority don't care. Every 5 years the government import a few containers of chicken and bring a Raggae star from Jamaica to make noise on a temporary stage and they gone back in again.
The recipe is tried and proven. Kids coming out of school don't know their times-tables, but they sure know how to multiply.
