Exactly correct. These lunatics have NO IDEA about finance. none. zero. zip. They think that winning the elections means they can SPEND our money on any fool (a&#) idea that comes into their head. Can they even spell the word "debt"? I don't think so.
stop the spending and borrowing now !!!!

TheMadHatter says...

You guys just can't seem to run out of ideas how to waste money - right? You don't have any shame when it comes to raping our grandchildren's wealth? Partnering with the UNDP (of course that involves a loan right?).

Please STOP spending our money, except on the recurrent budget. Capital budget should always be no more than 25% of recurrent in a country like ours with only 400,000 people and an $8 billion dollar debt. Of course if the debt was 50 trillion dollars - you would still think nothing of borrowing more. Amazing.

TheMadHatter says...

"However, others will argue that the fund's status as a "professional" fund is entirely appropriate as the investment opportunity is only suitable for sophisticated investors able to both understand its high reward/high risk potential and absorb any subsequent losses...."

And yet - ordinary Bahamians are trusted to decide how much money they want to "put" on various "numbers" on a daily basis. Anything good to help Bahamians get a leg up - NO - but we are allowed to squander as much money as we want on gambling. I'm not against gambling - but I'm saying what's good for the goose is good for the gander. (Of course, not here though in this pathetic wasteland).

TheMadHatter says...

If you guys would stop wasting money on stupid stuff like the $40M waste-to-energy thing for Abaco, and $670M for "world class" health facilities (a Haitian magnet) - THEN you would EASILY be able to find $40M for the actual bahamians that live in this country and their small businesses that have been damaged by the hurricane, and have some concern for the bahamian persons they employ.

You guys are spending money like drunken sailors (and most of it is borrowed to boot) - and now you crying you can't find a measly $40M (relatively speaking) for Bahamian business persons - who make the economy work? Did you get an F or a Z in economics (or did they have to use one of the Greek alphabet for ya?).

TheMadHatter says...

I agree campaign finance reform is needed - but I suspect that VAT is where the real mystery (and money) is at the moment - and solving that will magically solve all sorts of associated issues overnight. Of course, the problem as always is - What % of Bahamians truly care? There are only about 20 of us active on here.

This kind of borrowing and spending - and getting people upset about it - every week coming up with some new insane plan (like this one) that costs tens of millions of dollars, and talking about investment and loans and any kind of foolishness they can think of - is all just a scheme to keep our eyes off of the VAT money (which has not yet been accounted for).
As long as people keep falling for these stupid stories and getting involved in the discussions - instead of concentrating on the VAT - and only the VAT - then the government can continue to do whatever they feel. If we get upset about something - they just change the subject - and we follow behind like puppy dogs.

When i suggest to people that we need 100 MPs they call me crazy. They dont understand having more personalities will help prevent secrets and conspiracies and will help spread the wealth. The additional salary is nothing compared to the hundreds of millions slipping thru the cracks now. Why would you avoid spending an additional $2.4M in salary but lose $500M im lost investment? But that's what people want.

"...The four-year wait to make key decisions is unlikely to surprise many observers of how the Government works. This part of the IDB report this exposes another element that undermined efforts to reduce Bahamian poverty..."

The four year wait is used by governments in the Bahamas, to avoid having to rewrite a huge manifesto of promises. They can just roll out the same old list and song and ask the people for 5 more years. Minnis just asked us for his in this very same day's news. He wants another 7 years. 7 more years of unaccounted for VAT money. He will get it to. If the beer is cold, the chicken well seasoned, and the music mainly gangsta - he will get the votes.

I worked in government as well - and yes I met some VERY talented and educated and wise people there. None of them will ever be allowed to be Prime Minister though, because they will refuse on the basis of their good internal principles NOT to buy an election with beer and chicken and gangsta music.

These murders are mainly because young men today (in general) do not have fathers - only "baby daddies".
