I agree with Tal. Either the numbers are "massaged", or the gangs failed to hit the 100 mark. Why is it that failure abounds everywhere in this country? Even murderers can't do their jobs properly. Muddo.
"...Speaking on his ministry’s resolutions for 2020, Social Service Minister Frankie Campbell said he hopes to finalize several important matters...."
For example, goat nutrition is a big thing. We cannot allow farmers to be feeding goats just any old thing they like. If goats were fed well, that goat who died in east Grand Bahama might very well be alive today. He did not have the stamina to withstand the storm, or the strength to climb all the way up to high ground (which of course requires a quick swim to Cat Island). I propose a 250 million dollar government subsidy to assist farmers and residents to import high quality goat food from Australia to feed their goats. In addition, there will be a fine and possible jail time for any of them found feeding that food to their cows, or even to their own children to improve the nutrition in their diets. It is for goats, and goats alone.
"...“… And the first order is going to put back those institutions that will facilitate residents coming back and being able to access the services that they need..."
Meanwhile, we will not ask the U.S. government to offer temporary protected status to those Bahamians trapped in Florida - and instead let their relatives here send the money for food so that foreign reserves can leave the country, since they have no temp work visas. When they come back they will also be fat and lazy from sitting up all day doing nothing - and will be of little use in the rebuilding effort. While that sounds absolutely crazy and insane, it is those very two adjectives that caused us to select it as our choice plan going forward. Nobody loves crazy and insane more than us.
Exactly correct. Perhaps what he means by helping the poor people, is helping the Haitians? If you can't beat em, join em - and Bahamians obviously have already lost their country 100% to the Haitian invasion. We should start flying white flags (of surrender) out of our cars to match the Haitian flags they fly out of their cars right in the face of our police who will not enforce the Flag Law. Wonder why they won't enforce that? Police follow orders. Wonder whose order they following on this one?
So now we wait to see WHAT and how many forms we have to fill out this time to bring in these new items from Customs. It seems every time Parliament passes a law that we can bring in something duty free - and army of Customs officers are suddenly equipped with Form A, Form B, and Form C and we need to provide blood samples and our great grandmother's shoe size in order to comply.
Finally, with those fines, I predict the big boys like Super Value etc will just forego the record keeping and pay the fine to cover the year. What's with the fine anyway? Do they think stores are going to charge people $5 per bag? Who is going to shop at those stores? Let the market take care of itself. Stores will learn quick enough that if they charge STUPID high bag fees that they will lose customers. Why is capitalism not allowed to work in the Bahamas? Don't get me started on gasoline. Ssshhh.
This is why we remain in the dark ages. This is why we've only had 4 prime ministers in 46 years of "independence." This is why cancer patients and others suffering from seizures in this country just continue to suffer. This is why we have so many YOUNG people in our prisons whose lives are being ruined simply by being there (mentally and physically) and also from their now lifelong "criminal" record. This is why the population simply accepts year and year a D average from our schools.
Where do people like this Bishop come from?
You've just got to LOVE the position stated by the Christian Council ... "...will refrain from commenting until the official report of the marijuana commission is released." Reminds me of Luke 5:17, when the Pharisees stood by waiting to see if Jesus would heal the man on the Sabbath day and thus break the "law". Pathetic.
"BPL's statement also said: "In order to invest in the future and deliver more reliable energy that is less costly over time, BPL must service this debt now to make investments for the future..."
Nonsense. The new generators are already hooked up and running. Keep the power bill rates the same, and use the savings from these new generators to pay down the debt over time. Meanwhile, if Shell sees the opportunity here to make money by building a new plant - then let them come and build it. Don't charge us to build a plant for them.
Why is it that Bahamians have to spend over 50% of their income on just 3 items? Electricity, Car Fuel, and Vaseline ?
By the way, will the DNA make a pledge to open provide ALL financial information (starting with from the day they take office, I don't mean going back to Norman's Cay) - within 60 days of taking office - ALL info can be viewed online regarding actual expenditure (30 day lag on updates) - OR ELSE they will resign office after that first 60 days and before the 70th day? no - of course they won't. They just want to get their hands on the gravy. Bahamians won't know anything under their leadership. IF I am wrong, then make the pledge.
We are born victims, and we will die victims. Since January 2015 we still don't know what is happening with the over $900M each year collected in VAT. We don't know what constitutes our national debt - who do we owe this money to? When was it borrowed? For what purpose was it borrowed, and what payments were made on what dates, and the interest rate? We don't know actual expenditure on anything - only budgeted forecasts - which are similarly reliable as weather forecasts. We are kept ignorant for a reason. Keep working you Bahamian slave, while the government spends YOUR money however they feel like and don't even tell you wither it goeth and wither it cometh. We are not victims. We are Super Victims.
