Many here are correct that appraisals should have been done first etc etc regarding the purchase back from the Chinese.
However, the Chinese have the money and we are mere beggars and that is why things have to be done their way or no way.
Let this be a lesson to Govt and to individual Bahamians to NEVER do business with the Chinese. The business offers/investments/whatever sound really really good, but you get a different sense with your nose.
Geostorm, i agree. The PM should not be called such foul language. I hope that poster apologizes here in this group. The PM position deserves respect regardless.
I myself wish to apologize for calling Zhivargo, the former head boy of Hawksbill High, an idiot yesterday. I just wish he had more care for his people and did not cast them into the belly of the WTO slave ships like that which was done to his ancestors. It's not good to repeat mistakes.
...now reading the rest of the article, I see what we get in return for our $40m is a pipe dream, a hope, a prayer, a chance, a possibility, and an "open market". I will take each one of those words written boldly on a piece of paper at the end of this month to BPL and ask them to strike off the balance on my light bill, because they are worth 40 million dollars - I will tell the cashier that she can keep the change.
"THE Government will forego $40m in revenue under its first World Trade Organisation (WTO) offer, its chief negotiator suggesting that accession will impact just 20 percent of the economy..."
NO Zhivargo, you idiot, the people of the bahamas will foregoe $40m in revenue. you don't care because you can just raise VAT to 20%, and we have to pay it. Do you even live on the planet Earth, much less the Bahamas?
Find out what happened to all of Bahamasair's old Dash-8 aircraft - lease two of them for 1 year. Those things were awesome for carrying luggage and passengers. Get 2 of them now. Put your logo on them and get flying. (Don't put a Bahamian flag on them though, Laker Airways tried that back in the early 90s and caught Hell for it).
Environmentalists need to look at the world population growth chart from 1900 to 2017. That's the root of the problem, but i don't hear a squeak out of them about it.
A baby is born. Baby grows up. Adult needs job and land to live on. Adult gets pregnant 5 times. 5 babies are born. 5 babies grow up. 5 adults need jobs and land to live on. Wash, rinse, repeat. We are up to 8 billion now. Dead fish washing up on shore.

Please don't say anything bad about Haitians. You will be called a racist. Just hand the keys to the country over to them and be quiet.

Sheeprunner ... excellent question. A BIG part of the answer lies in what i've been beating the drum about the past few weeks.
Independence Day celebrations !!!!
Every year tens of thousands of Bahamians come out in July to celebrate.
The government looks at us and says "Look at dem bunch a jacks eh? We could do anything to them and dey gah dance with the same beat."
Boycott independence and change will come.
But it wont happen. Bahamians just love to talk and complain. Turn on some music and dey gah dance ... even if VAT was 112%.
