TheMadHatter says...

The "CROWN" owns all the land in Abaco, and our "independent" government can do nothing about it. Bahamians have no land, so they must rent from the few who control all of it or pay mortgage to the "banks" (as they call themselves).

In a few days on July 10th - Bahamians across the nation will celebrate their slavery under the Crown and the fact that they have no land to live upon and enjoy the fruits of rent and mortgage debts.

The Government knows how stupid we are (collectively) and they will actively encourage these "celebrations" to continue to keep the people stupid. They like stupid people. They are easy to swing, and not just once a year either.

TheMadHatter says...

Correct, fully, 100%. Apparently the most expensive thing in Abaco is condoms. They must cost even more than $900 each, just like the rent.

TheMadHatter says...

"Additionally, the commission has the authority to report any suspected violations..."

What violations? There is no offense called "price gouging".

Only price controlled items have restrictions on price. If a conveniene store wants to price their Snickers bars at $7.29, that's their choice. I doubt they will sell very many due to competition in the market.

Competition is the answer to most of our problems. If someone with power and authority would investigate competition in the gasoline and diesel markets we might make some headway. Gas is over $5.00 here and if you check gasbuddy dot com you will find Ft. Lauderdale prices around $2.65 Those fuel transport ships must have the most inefficient propulsion engines known to man.

Why doesn't THIS newspaper publish one Ft Lauderdale station at the top of the page along with the other three stations they publish daily?

So, not only is there insufficient competition - but ignorance among the population about the situation is not being addressed.

Her Majesty ain't checkin' for us. She don't even know they took her name off the prison yet. Let's just hope she chooses Harry instead of William, and be quick about it.

12% of one dollar is more than 12% of 88 cents. They are not the same amount, so the add and subtract does not work that simply.

To add 12% to something you can simply multiply that something by 1.12.

In order to remove 12% from something you divide by 1.12.
$1.00 divided by 1.12 = $0.89286

or $0.893 cents.

89 cents would work (not 88)

$0.89 x 1.12 = $0.9968 which would round to $1.00

Anyway, quite simply - your plan is GREAT - just that the answer is NOT to subtract 12% from the "desired price" so that when it is added back on it will still be the desired price. instead you want to divide the desired price by 1.12

Hopefully, the merchants will consider it. Thank you.

*"Mr Campbell is to move from the Ministry of Transport and Local Government to the Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development"*

I guess all the new social service money in the new budget (to help with 12% VAT hike) will be going to the Haitians dem.

Maybe I could look up online how to say "I need money to buy milk for my baby" in Creole, then I can visit the Ministry.

How is it that the population of the Mud and Peas for decades is just the right amount of people to fill the space? Not too few? Not too many? Coincidence? Or some brilliant management scheme?

That is the true mystery here.

I'm sure the Task Force will report back that unless he gets approval from the Abaco Haitian Pastors Association, any plan is doomed to failure.

If Haitians go on strike, Abaco will shut down. They hold all the cards.
