however, i strongly disagree with this statement by him "... a form of income tax or even payroll tax where you can exempt persons below a particular salary scale."

NO !!!

That kind of thinking is why we have so many poor people now. The more you make it advantageous to be poor, the less incentive poor people have to become rich.

Socrates - do you not believe in democracy? If all FNM MPs are simply warming a chair and raising their hands saying yes to whatever bills the Party brings forth - then we don't need them to "represent" a constituency.

We could just have a PM and a bunch of tape recorders or parrots. The batteries or bird seed would cost less.

I applaud MP Miller for being a real rep of his people, having a backbone, and being a man.

Kudos to you good Sir !!!!

I support the 12%, but it is not up to me. It should be up to the great people of this country.

The following protest took place about 3 days ago in London after a journalist was jailed without charges and the news outlets were threatened by the Govt to not report on the "arrest".

Could Bahamians ever have this much backbone? Perhaps with MP Miller setting an example we can. I encourage you all to take a few minutes and watch some of the video. I was told the other day by another frequent pundit on here that we only had 3,000 people on "We March" because we didn't offer free beer. If that is true then Bahamians deserve to lose their country and serve whichever masters they allow to import whips duty free.

You're points are totally correct. I don't have all the answers. It just pains me to see the ladies who work the cash register at the fast food restaurants in the grocery store with their 5 children filling the cart with Ramen noodles and Vienna sausage.

But maybe there is just nothing that can be done about it. Maybe God himself has ordained that Bahamian children have to suffer and then grow up to have strokes and heart attacks. People say children are a "gift" from God - so maybe that really is just the way it must be.

TheMadHatter says...

Sorry to hear people prefer free beer to a country of their own - but that is their choice.

Your economics is spot on, and K.P. knows this too. I actually would have preferred 10% BUT maybe come Nov 1st if God and King Salacie spare us from any major hurricane damages, govt can then reduce it to 10%.

I will send in a request. LOL.

ThisIsOurs ... hopefully "employers nationwide" will bear in mind that every laid off employee is actually a consumer. A consumer without money cannot consume.

People are blowing this waaaay out of proportion. The sky is not falling. We are headed to better and prosperous times. Investors worldwide are probably just itching to come here and do things, esp. with the new tech investment law and this new move to balance our budget.

However, i guess now they will go back into waiting mode. Waiting to see if Bahamians are going to take to the streets and beg for bankruptcy.

Amazing how everyone is suddenly concerned about how Govt spends our money - but nobody gave a damn while Perry was in power. No street riots demanding accountability except the couple little "shows" by the good senator.

However, the most we had (i marched every time) was 3000 people. One march was on a holiday - so unless you were in hospital everyone should have been there. There should have been at least 80,000 people on that march. Have you seen the protest march videos from Venezuela, Pohland, France?

Those people care. Bahamians too lazy to march against the PLP when they catchin contract.

It is so very sad that our young men are either being slaughtered on the streets or sent to Fox Hill to be raped and trained in higher criminal technical studies.

I have said over and over, any woman found pregnant who cannot produce a bank letter verifying $10,000 in long term deposits, should be given 20 years in prison.

But who am i? Just a mad hatter. What would i know?

Mr. Winder should be aware that many average Bahamian dominoes player want their
VAT to be 19. :-)

Tell Mayor Hidalgo to crawl back into the cave she came out of. She is one of the stupidest people alive today. She should concentrate on the young French women who are being raped by Muslim gangs. But obviously she hasn't enough sense nor scruples for that.

TheMadHatter says...

Mr Turnquest is exactly correct once again. If we have another major hurricane and there is no money, the public will want to lynch him. He is getting the money together. Everyone can see the economy improving. Investor confidence will only continue to go up as they see a government who for once in our history has decided to take fiscal responsibility and dares to use terms like "balanced budget." That term is the equivalent of "Hell fire" to PLP leaches.

The D-average lower class needs to try hard keep their condoms on and their mouths shut.
