If only Bahamians would support other Bahamians half as much as they support foreigners, we would fast become the greatest little country in the world.
"Mr Turnquest promised to detail these outstanding obligations once the mid-year Budget debate begins ..."
Yes, we always get "promises" to be informed about where our money comes from and whither it goeth. There is no website where Bahamians can get this information. We have no idea to whom these debts are owed, when and for what the money was borrowed, how many payments have been made, how much interest has accrued - nothing, nada, zilch.
Bahamians are expected to just shut up, wait five years, and ink dey finger. And, luckily for the Government, that's exactly what the public does. They are a good little, well behaved public, much like sheep who go along meekly and mildly where the shepherd leads them.
Never a protest, never a strike, always show up to "Independence Day" celebrations and drink and dance like tings is just cool.
As it says in the Bible, "The wind bloweth where it listeth." And nothing better describes the planned track for the future of Bahamians.
I am confident in them going forward, based on what I've read here. They sound like they have a good handle on the way to improve - seriously.
I've often felt that there were "soft spots" in the distribution network, and have thought of offering to assist in that area (since I have some background), but I knew that it would go to foreign consultants in the end, and so I did not bother.
When I worked in another Government department some years ago, the team I was on was very capable of doing a new project that Govt wanted - but alas they hired persons from Singapore to come in and do the work. I'm sure they were paid 4 times my salary too. There is probably a secret law written somewhere that says no matter what talent you have on hand - if it is Bahamian, ignore it. There is no end to these kind of stories.
We still do not yet have a national database of persons to assist with unemployment. It is segregated by island. An out of work plumber in Eleuthera has no way to know (thru the Labour Board) that a company in Bimini has applied to the Labour Board for a plumber. There is no inter-island sharing of data. I could write that program for Govt in less than a month and I've offered before on this forum. Of course, I'm sure there is some reason that they don't want it.
The best solution, really, is not to write our own program (although I'm willing to do so) - but the answer is for govt to partner with a big database like monster.com or the like, to have a www.monster.com/bahamas sub-domain and make it only accessible from Bahamian IP addresses. The Govt pays them like $1000 per month to handle the data and bandwidth. Problem solved. This could be negotiated, put together and in place long before the end of March.
BTC decided to embrace the Haitian community with their "1. for English, 2. for Creole" menus. That's their choice. I know many Bahamians who switched to ALIV just because of that crap. I would switch too, but I've spoken to persons at ALIV and they cannot assure me that they will never do it too - so it doesn't make sense to switch and then 6 months from now I'm pressing 1 for English all over again.
It's just easier to realize that as a Bahamian you have to suck a donkey's boongie, and just live from day to day with what you have. There is no hope for us. We will be wiped out as a race. Our culture will not survive into the next century (not even to 2050).
I was recently "schooled" by another commenter that the "D-Average" is actually a good thing and represents "satisfactory understanding of the material."
There ought to be a special TAX for people like LICKS2 to pay - based on the estimated number of illegals in the Bahamas.
Every month so much added to his/her NIB contribution. I'm sure they would gladly pay it to "support the Haitian community"
Right now every man woman and child in this Bahamas is contributing no less than $50 per month thru various avenues (taxes, loss of business, crime, social services, clinics, schools, etc) - toward the welfare of Haitians.
The way this govt is going (encouraging more) - that will be up to $100/month by end of year.
Nobody has yet found out why the Defense Force was not monitoring the southern shore, and who gave that infamous "stand down" order. We will probably be hearing the same thing 6 months from now, and we will be asking who gave the new "stand down" order in January.
"... both leaders committed to undertake joint initiatives that could contribute to reducing the flow of migration to The Bahamas."
NO !!!!! Not "reducing". Need "stopping."
Damn. Is this PM even awake? Does he live in the Bahamas? Is he a Bahamian? He can't be serious.
If election were held today, the PLP would take back the reigns of government - there is no doubt about that. I absolutely HATE the PLP, but I would vote for them right now.

Well we all know how Jamaican women can behave - LOL.
Don't worry a bit though, even though this story is now public, many new ones will still come here "to visit".
