Thank you Capt. Roker for speaking up. Had it not been for your courage, we the public would have NEVER known about this - yet another - secret IDB loan. We would have simply been told in January that our national debt had then crossed the $7B mark and that it was due to prior spending by the PLP.
It's so funny that both "reports" quoted in the article were produced by banks. A fisherman never shouts "Rotten fish for sale !"
I'm sure Min. Bannister is very upset that you've exposed this continued raping of our Public Treasury.
Just two weeks ago Tourism Minister was talking about adding another berth to the cruise ship docks.
One has to wonder just how many shackles of debt these two gentlemen want us Bahamian slaves to wear on our necks.
I was told by someone "in the know" that the Bahamas historically used to be a part of Haiti.
We were the northern Haitian territories. Some "uppity" Bahamians, back in the day, chased many of them out and also engaged in a breeding war having many children. I do remember growing up hearing about my grandmother and great grandmother and others in the communities in those days having many children
So what has been happening over the past 4 decades is simply Haitians reclaiming what is rightfully theirs. Those who know history and understand the law are aware of this...i was told...such as police officers - for example - and that is the reason why the cars driving around with Haitian flags (contrary to the flag law) are never booked and fined. The officers have likely been told that such a fine would be appealed all the way to the Supreme Court which after the facts came out would rule in the driver's favour. Additionally this would open a can of worms whereby our true sovereignty would be revealed and the Bahamian flag would be ordered to be lowered at Government House.
The maintenance of this secret has consumed much time and resources. But i was told the truth will be revealed after the arrests begin in January. These are terrible times.
Wondering if it would have been cheaper to simply hire those 2000 Bahamians to the Gaming Board and just let them sit around and play dominoes all day? Would it over a ten year period have cost us less money from the Treasury?
Serious question.
Of course we cannot answer because we have no access to actual financial figures. We only get to see an annual "budget" which itself is merely a Dr Seuss book filled with imaginary numbers and ideas.
Dr Seuss had Thing 1 and Thing 2, but the Bahamian public only have Thing Half.
Oh those poor poor expat condo and home owners? They might sell out and go somewhere else that has sun sand and sea? Can they please hurry up and do so? Flights leave every day.
You mean they won't be here renting their places as hotel rooms to "friends who are staying with them"? You mean they won't be here hiring illegals at slave wages to do gardening and pool cleaning? You mean they won't have "friends" from abroad just happen to visit while they are re-shingling their roof and those "friends" just happen to lend a helping hand?
Certainly you can't mean the Bahamas has received this much good news this morning.
They say if something sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't. I predict more expat owners, more Haitian gardeners, more Costa Rican pool cleaners, and more Philipino live-in maids. But that's just me. What would i know about it?

OMG yes my name is indeed appropriate, but you may have noticed i did support the new investments Bill.
You are also correct that we have many excellent expats here who contribute tremendously, but your phrase "tightening up" is also appropriate.
I suspect that if you sat and drank with me at one of my tea parties you would find we have much that we agree on.
