This is really a non-issue as we prepare on Monday to celebrate and perhaps find out which of our Bahamian heroes discovered the Bahamas in 1492.

Millennial...respectfully you may be underestimating the power of modern day QuickBooks at the same time as i am likely not making myself clear.

I am only talking about medium and long term payables and their payment history. Rest assured there is not more of these than QuickBooks can handle....or else we would all be eating only grits 3 meals per day.

Not wanting to reveal my identity, but will say that i have expertise in this area.

These payables should be scroling on the TV screen on Parliament Channel at 10pm at night instead of funeral announcements. When i was in the CDR we talked about putting this and other such public information on that channel but i guess the people prefer non-stop funeral info.

Maybe they will be even happier when the IMF holds one big funeral for our dollar currency.

It is time to convert our government accounting to the standard accrual system - instead of the current cash system.

Of course, Government will want to do this in one BIG project of revamping and spend tens of millions using contractors from Singapore (again) in our IT department, etc.

May I suggest a two-step process, whereby we use a program as powerful as QuickBooks is to ONLY DO the accounts payable side of our accounts (even though this may in SOME cases be a duplication wherever the current system does account for it). - and get a "feeling" of how this goes before designing the adjustments to the current system.

The problem has been left too long and is too big to be simply swallowed whole. The complexity lies not within the programming aspect of the change-over - but in the physical movement of invoices etc. That is what needs to be streamlined, and that is why I've suggested what I have. This is not to make light of the magnitude. Quickbooks is quite capable of keeping tabs on our payables (I mean those which are not automatically recurring like salaries) - quite capable indeed.

Prediction: Minnis will be ousted in a vote of no confidence by Cabinet and removed (like he was before) by the Governor General before the end of March.

Fixing Grand Bahama is easy:

1. Remove all VAT from Grand Bahama

2. Remove all Bah Govt property tax from land in the Freeport area

3. Remove all requirements for businesses in the Freeport area to need a Bah Govt business license and the associated inspections by Health, Works, etc.

4. Add the Rand Memorial Hospital and public clinics into the Public Health Authority system instead of having them like outside children under a separate "Grand Bahama" authority. This hinders the assingment of doctors, medicines, supplies, and blood tests from happening in a sane and timely manner.

5. Bahamasair to start paying landing fees like other airlines that utilize FPO.

6. Open the road in front of Princess Towers.

7. Invite the Big Red Boat (Disney) to return to Port Lucaya and put in jail any taxi driver who speaks or acts against it.

8. Dont sell anything else to or allow any further investment from any Chinese.

9. Remove the $50 tax from container trucks traveling on the "Queen's Highway"

10. Never again extend the Hawksbill Creek Agreement more than 15 years at a time.

Sit back and watch the money flow into the Treasury.

Spoiler...it dont take much time for a bulldozer to push open the road in front of Princess Towers. He has been in power many months. That road needs to be reopened yesterday.

As far as physicians, does anyone know if Dominica is allowing the group Doctors Without Borders to assist? They were not allowed in Abaco after Hurricane Floyd because they did not have work permits.

Tal...we truly cannot afford to remove VAT from breadbasket items. Bear in mind that for a significant portion of this country THAT is all the taxes they pay.

Proudloud...you are right. I would go further and say nobody is going to worry about the Bahamas until our currency is devalued. Even then they will say we are blessed because we are next to the USA so we have no cause to complain.

Im sure there are at least a million out of the 12 million in Haiti who go to bed hungry many nights. Lets bring them all here and feed them starting tomorrow. Isn't that the Christian thing to do? Lets quadruple our population over the next two months. Why not?

Their reasoning is that money "moving in the economy" helps everyone....like the old phrase "A rising tide lifts all boats." But the problem is here that the cost of the water to rise the tide is way too expensive. It would be much cheaper to nail some 2x4 together and make a wooden ladder to climb up out ya boat up on to the dock.

The price is too high for us, our children, and grandchildren.

The IDB & IMF know that. They love creating economic slaves and apparently Bahamians love being them.
