....but it is the JAIL that they managed and made the way it is, and did not lift a finger to fix it. Now that some of their people might have to go up there and get boongied and taken to PMH to get their behind stitched up by a surgeon - they are suddenly worried and concerned about "security" at the prison.
Perhaps it would help, Sir, if you stated WHEN you switched to LNG, and what specific savings have been reaped from that conversion.
I applaud your mention of foreign exchange. In the Bahamas, this is a more troubling matter to the Government than family incest. It is used as a method to keep the people down, and at the same time they cry about citizens having accounts in Florida. One third party leader (who has now left politics in Freeport) wanted to enforce the law against having such accounts - perhaps hoping this would force Bahamians to invest in the Bahamas. Little did he realize that there are hundreds of Bahamians who want to invest in the Bahamas - but they are not given that privilege in the way foreigners are, and in many cases not at all.
The Bahamas is very backward - and yes we could learn things from Jamaica and other nations - but we simply refuse. We refuse technical expertise in our police department and in our power supply, and in our social services. We would just rather be dumb. But we are proud. A proud dumb people. I guess that's the way God made us, and it just can't change.
The cost of power in this country has now overtaken teenage pregnancy as the number one issue. I suppose the new Government has shipped Graham Weatherford off to Zimbabwe to get him out of their hair - you know he was always coming up with good ideas on how to make power less expensive for the common man. I'm sure no Bahamian government would want that to happen. Poor Graham. Hope you can catch some wild game to eat old buddy.
"explore privatization"????? of BISX? Mr. Turnquest you have had 5 years to explore. Are you guys just figuring out what you want to do to fix the Bahamas? Do you plan to take 5 years and then 4 1/2 years from now tell us your "plans" if you win government?
Please get all your board members appointed and department heads etc. so the government can start getting to work.
Stop talking foolishness about spending more money - and get the damn hotels open you idiot. ALSO call those fools who own the Princess Towers and Princess Country Club hotels and get them to agree to have 50 rooms open by August 20th OR you will have a D-10 bulldozer reopen the road from Ranfurly Circus roundabout (by Pub on the Mall) to the Ruby Swiss Restaurant - so traffic can flow like it used to. That road can be dozed, paved, and open by August 30th - easily - if there is the will to do it.
PLEASE stop talking damn nonsense. Did you just arrive in Freeport and have no idea of the history there? No more pie in the sky bull - fix the stuff that is broken, and please do it yesterday.
The Bahamian people asked for "more of the same" that they've been getting for 44 years - they voted for the SAME people yet again - and so they should be happy they are getting exactly that. Suck it up. Some day donkey boongie will give chocolate milk (maybe).
Economist - of course you know my comment was tongue-in-cheek. I've been on here long time, you've seen many of my comments about teenage pregnancy and our most common disease of bellyswellitis. I agree with you completely. Hopefully the church will grow up some day.
Excellent points - but at the end of the day the vast majority of Bahamians really don't care about anything except making babies - so nothing will change.
