So in other words the police and government can have drones, but ordinary citizens cannot - even though even the US which they keep referring to in the article do not have any such laws actually in place yet.

Once again, tough luck for Bahamians. Something nice and new? Not for you.

Too bad the article doesn't delve into why the area was cordoned off "by police" in the first place - and what would interest Mr. Rolle in going into that particular area.

I'm not saying he didn't have an interest. But what area was it? Behind the casino? The gate where the garbage dumpsters are kept? Were police looking for a body back there?

Could I pass a journalism school final exam with both hands tied behind my back?

Apparently, these days, perhaps.

Of course they haven't. The Government's view is that "Bahamians can go suck dey teeth".

The official policy doesn't say that of course. That would be rude. The official policy says "Shut the hell up until next election, and then come out and mark ya 'X' for who we tell you to."

Wonder why the hotel won't describe in their response to the media - why they feel that the package they have offered the workers is better than anything they have discussed or currently have with the union.

Perhaps even the regular members of the union (you know like the maids and janitors) are not being told what the hotel is offering them in truth - and instead are just being told by the union that "man they offering yall peanuts, stick with our plan". Wonder what could be their reason for withholding that info too - maybe the new plan has no room for sticky fingers?

I don't know either way - it just seems ODD that the hotel would not give at least some hint of WHY they say (in the article) that what they are offering is better and that they are perplexed that it has not been accepted. My thought is that perhaps nobody (except union bosses) have ever even heard of it.

Great article. Two things:

1. The trip to N.Y. was to beg for more time to pay back the $300 million that they recklessly borrowed against our $500 million foreign reserve which holds our currency on par with the $US. After 60 days (and the clock much less than that now) - our currency will be reduced to 70 cents.

2. You need to tone down your intelligence level - you know like down to the D+ average level - before they don't take away your passport and kick you outta here. You know they can't have smart people around pointing out their stupidity - LOL.

Absolutely correct. The DNA and independent candidates need to be sure to remind Bahamians WHY they voted OUT the FNM in 2012 - and convince them not to turn fool enough to put them back in.

On Bahamas is ‘catching hell’ under PLP

But, to answer your question "Can their fight ever be about anything other than money?" - The answer is

yes it can

It can be about something other than money, as soon as BEC and the food stores and other suppliers of items necessary to sustain life accept something other than money as payment. When they find out what that thing is (bottle caps? sea shell?) - then they would accept those things in place of money because with them they would be able to buy food.

Stapedius - I wonder if when they are not paid on Tuesday as promised, and still have not been paid come the next holiday neither for this holiday nor all the ones prior that they mention - will you still sing the same tune.

Now that you are aware of what they are saying - that is - they are not getting paid - will you wait to see IF they actually get paid on Tuesday? Will you wait for weeks and weeks and weeks after Tuesday and see that they still continue not to get paid (in full) - and THEN will you support them in their industrial action next holiday?

Otherwise, how long do you think they should work without pay? How long does one have to work without pay in order to fully and certifiably earn the title of SLAVE ?

Grassroot - have a look at Islandgirl's comment below. You see how long this foolishness has been going on? How come the newspapers haven't been running the story "ATC and managerial staff unpaid for over 2 years and counting"????????/

No, they won't run the story.

It is only a story because the Easter Break might get messed up without their work. That is why they might strike this weekend, to call attention to their plight which otherwise would not even get a mention anywhere.

Govt keeps borrowing money - and then the money that should be paid to working people has to be paid to the foreign lenders in interest.
