Those who think the Government can run freeport better than the Port Authority should ask themselves why has the Government not developed West End and East End. Those ends of the island are not under Port Authority Control (with the exception that nobody is allowed to build an airport there without the Port's approval).
People who want the Port gone, should ask themselves why they don't pack up and move to East End? Why don't they pack up and move to West End? Why doesn't government demonstrate its superior knowledge and expertise on those ends and then we can all beg for them to come in and upgrade Freeport to those levels.
LOL. I really would like to comment - but I just can't stop laughing long enough. This Act will go nowhere. Haitians RULE in this country. We have "Majority Rule" - remember? And they are the majority. Please stop talking nonsense and at least try to fill some potholes.
“What are the lease arrangements that governs the occupancy of the Post Office at that site? There was a promise from them to lay it on the table. Why has it not been laid? We want them to disclose it.”
LOL Mr. Davis, you should know very well that yard niggers ain't supposed to know about no paperwork and high minded things like that. Yall ain't even supposed to be able to read.
In fact, you should know VERY well this fact, cause I believe the rest of us were treated like yard niggers while YOU were in power - not so long ago.
YOU had the chance to implement a Freedom of Information Act and you did not. Now you get no information, just like the rest of us sorrowful little tax payers. I'm glad to hear it. I hope the Government don't tell you nothing. They shouldn't even give you the time of day. Buy a watch and make sure the battery in it is good.
"...far in excess of the Employment Act’s 12-year limit that the government is seeking to impose on the managers."
No, they are not seeking to "impose" - it's the law. The Employment Act is a law. If i get ticketed for running a red light can i cry to the judge and say "This policeman is seeking to IMPOSE the Road Traffic Act on me" ?
As far as your calculations by year - that just makes no sense. The calculations weren't based on years, they were simply what the Act called for plus EXTRA money just to be nice. Now if you want to go and say, for example, that the govt gave all of them say a $10,000 bonus above the Act and there was a janitor who only made $10,000 per year - then a cook who made $20,000 per year could "claim discrimination" by saying she only got paid 6 months' pay as a bonus and the janitor got 12 months.
But that's not it. Everyone got a big bonus. Those of us on the outside are wondering what country yall think you working in, not to mention which island. If i was govt all of yall names and date of birth would go in a blacklist file and you would never get any job or contract or be a worker for a contractor in any govt agency or outside agency like NIB etc ever again.
Your thinking is the same kind of thinking that caused us to lose the Big Red boat from.Disney back around 1996. If you can't have the whole pie, instead of your slice, you prefer to break up the oven so no pies could bake.
No wonder foreigners could come in here and roll over us like dog. We have no national pride and comraderie.
Mr D’Aguilar is long enough in the tooth and has been in this country long enough to know that there are quite a number of people here who are simply above the law. There is nothing that can be done about it. He can no more take away their licenses anymore than the former government could have refused to have granted them.
Remember when Glenys Hannah Martin tried to speak out about the boy found hanging from his belt in the Grove police station back around 2009? She was told to shut up and kicked out of the House of Assembly. Regardless of what any of you may think of her otherwise, she was an elected Member of Parliament whose job it was to SPEAK about issues in the House of Assembly on behalf of her community. She was told to SHUT UP and kicked out.
You do not need to know any other thing than that about this country to understand why our situation is 100% hopeless.
Everything comes down to the people. The Bahamian people do these things:
1) They spend money at number houses; 2) They spend money at Chinese businesses; 3) They donate money to churches.
They say money talks and b***s*** walks. Bahamians TALK with their money in the above 3 ways. They support those things. They support their own poverty and ignorance. Like the Kemp Road people say - they happy. Kalik, dominoes, and Junkanoo - das all they need.
No money for nurses, teachers, school supplies, roads, air traffic controllers, PMH air conditioners, medicine in the PMH pharmacy, etc, etc. No problem. Remember our real national motto "Everything Cool".
You didn't report on the situation in the Bahamas. Gals dem gettin big-up. More big-up than before. Our "big-up" index is rising on the charts. Govt made baby food and baby tings duty free to help the big-uppitiness. More big-up on the way. Bahamas going up up up - big up.
The govt say if Bahamians try to get more money and have a nicer lifestyle, they won't be allowed. "Big-up" masters will be brought in from down south who will do super big-up while they take yinna jobs - so you won't get no money to try have a better life. Ya children will eat Ramen noodles and get high blood pressure and die from stroke. Be poor and big up, or die - that's your choice.
All them fancy numbers this man writing about don't mean nothing in this country. Nothing. If the US dollar collapses and we have to eat dry ration packets dropped from US Army helicopters and haul water from the well - won't be no different - big up will continue same speed.
All I know is that when you pay your money at the counter and tell her the washer number - the lady is press a button and your washing machine is start spinning. Dionisio got it on lock.
At first i thought wow, this human right defender has finally decided to speak out against police brutality - God bless him. But then ...
"...to brutalise and intimidate the weak with impunity, regardless of the supposed justification. Just look at the well known immigration abuses and excesses!"
He just had to throw in a line about immigration. He never talks about Fox Hill when he is discussing Haitians - BUT he has to talk about Haitians when he talks about Fox Hill. He just can't give his attention unfettered to police brutality.
If there were no Haitians in the Bahamas, i believe you would NEVER hear Mr Smith discuss police brutality or any other human rights.
Why dont he just call his organization Haitian Rights? They say the last person you want to fool is yourself.
