More Bahamian xenophobia, with arm chair quarterbacking.
If any of you have read even 5% of the working documents i'd be surprised.
As to the negotiation team, I agree, incompetent at best starting with Mr. Laing.
However the initial team fired by Ingraham and Laing was competent.
Either way we in the Bahamas had better clean up our act or we will suffer either way, and we have been in ever increasing measure.

So the Developer is at fault fr not collecting service charges and defaults on clean up responsibility?
Meanwhile the residents sit back and wait for the Government to come and do clean up for them?
And the Port Authority is where in this mess? Other private subdivisions have no problem getting cleaned up. The residents can do for themselves and should!
Sanitation services has the equipment, own the dump, Pool 3 houses together and get a claw truck to come and take your stuff yourself!
Why are we so content to wait for Government to come and do nothing for us?

Also a high % of the pigeon pea and Mud residents were completely undocumented, kids , spouses etc.
so estimates of numbers missing could never be complete or accurate.
The survivors won't come forward to report the missing due to fear of deportation.

Paper work is notorious for being lost, Immigration paperwork, any and all applications, peoples documents, tender bidding documents, Customs documents, court documents, especially with Government, courts etc. still being paper based.
Recently there has been a push to get Blockchain going for Government records etc but they're so inept that the process of getting that in place will itself be embroiled in kickbacks and padded contracts, and with back doors no doubt.
When BTC firsts put in cell phone services there were a huge number of phones on the system via a back door, took their audit dept years to figure out a high number of phones numbers weren't billable. Same happened again when prepaid was introduced. A huge number of Cards being used that weren't in the billable/sales system.
Even with the recent Government bid for the Dome Tents for Abaco, and the RV's,
there is money being made by government officials on the side.

Is that what you're asking about?

Who will ever know.
Especially given the general public distrust of Government, their terrible record keeping and propensity for "disappearing" peoples documents and paperwork,

So in the midst of a disaster aftermath we will not only change out Defense force leadership, NEMA leadership, but Cabinet Ministers also?
Not surprised but every time they switch out people it sets progress back a week!

The_Oracle says...

So what is the minister gonna do or who will he blame when all the RV holding tanks are full, batteries dead, water tanks empty, generators serviced, etc?
Are the occupants being trained on these RV/Boat type systems?
If not those RV's will be unlivable in short order.
Again, no logistical skill or comprehensive knowledge to draw upon.
Relief supplies piling up in the US, NEMA with no capability to haul, unload, distribute.
Warehouses full and stuck in them.
NGO's working around NEMA and blowing their doors off with on the ground logistics and results.
And still the Government won't relinquish control.
Always the control. Getting in the way. Meetings upon meetings that result on no action.

If 3 years later Ragged Island reconstruction hasn't started, Abaco won't start cleanup for 10 years!
What a pathetic bunch, completely lost except for photo ops, in which they look lost.

The_Oracle says...

Would someone please educate this man?
The inspection department of the ministry of works failed to inspect buildings properly!
Besides, even if code specs are built to 150 I doubt the code can be faulted as 200mph was experienced. Nor does the code accommodate flooding or water velocity.
Who is feeding this man garbage to recite?
Also he had better consult with the studies done on Shelter deaths vs. scattered residential deaths ratio. Shoving people into ill built shelters will cause more deaths, and evacuations for larger populations are unrealistic unless they are going to start evacuating at the start of hurricane season! And if so from and to which islands?
These rash reactions without any basis in fact or consultation with sensibility will only get more people killed or exposed to danger.
The complete NEMA amendment will only hamper and destroy any semblance of disaster response possible.
Fools rush in.......

Cooper is correct, between the 1000 Island Challenged and Bransons Carbon War room etc Ragged Island could have and should have been a showpiece for the Bahamas and in short order.
However, let us not be fooled into believing the PLP would have been or done any better.
Same applies today in the case of Abaco and G.B.
Two armchair Quarter backs does not get a job done.
