And yet, Freeport streets are kept clean, roads are being patched/replaced, and we have had 5 major hurricanes and we bounce back with zero government help.
There are projects happening, dispute government stalling/ blocking/ hijacking.
Every time an anchoremproject has happened elsewhere in the Bahamas it has pulled hundreds from Freeport. ( Exuma, Atlantis, Bimini, bahamar, )
GB Power is way more reliable than bec/bpl.
The government cannot even maintain the ONE road they own in Freeport GB. ( Queens Highway) so the port offered and does the maintenance for them. And it is drivable from east to west.
No, I’ll take a slow day in Freeport over any day in Nassau. Let government in Nassau offer their “chosen” ones some other island. Seeing as they’re into fire sales.

The other worrisome part is their 2024 take over of inspecting commercial vehicles!
Hope they'll have offices on every island with commercial vehicles!
Or an election happens.

Grand Bahama has been mashed by 5 hurricanes and some smaller storms, and each time Government finally shows up they have to be taught what to do. Each time a new civil servant or political appointee tries to reinvent a wheel Grand Bahamians are well familiar with.
The smart ones listen to the many voices of experience. Government just gets in the way.
Every time one hits we lose a hotel or two. Pelican bay became a hurricane relief worker hotel, and thank god for it. And then came Dorian, another economic cat 5. But we have and are continuing to recover.

Young men in the workplace are angry if they have a female supervisor or boss. Another Woman telling them what to do, like their mothers. Put them under a male supervisor they get seriously angry, having never had a man (father) telling them what to do.
A recipe that's been cooking this disaster for 50 years.
As a society we beat the initiative out of them as children but complain when they grow up to be violent and angry at the world?
Mothers leading by example with multiple children by multiple men who cannot be found, taught everything by teachers who apparently cannot teach.
A sad societal indictment.

So how did MTVS know ahead of amended legislation that this was coming?
Who is this Martiniqua Davis connected to? Who has qualified MTVS personnel to pre- qualify all the heavy truck drivers? So much for a new day! Transparency abounds.
No new taxes, just more personal pillaging and sweetheart deals.

I'd rather see an age cap, so we can stop recycling old useless political appointees.
If they haven't skimmed enough shingles from the public/treasury by the age of 65 roll 'em out!

Once again, government doesn't think things through, they are masters off unattended consequences.
Coupled with bad English in press releases, omitted facts, partial information, who the hell could know what is going on.

The Port Authority is not responsible for the Government's terrible track record, but the Government is at least half responsible for Freeports diminishing track record.
Lest we not forget, while the courts said the Port was in charge of foreign investment and licensing, the government still inserts itself in the approval process, which is where it all gets hung up and tied up in graft/payoff/and political benefit.

Wouldn't it be great to amend the constitution with personal penalties for the elected on their misfeasance, corruption and incompetences.
About the only way we are gonna upgrade the caliber of leadership and state of the country.

The king of mis-truths and mis information strikes again!
There are two bridges across the Grand Lucayan water way, the original bridge is being worked on, the new bridge is fully functional. Fred is singing for his supper, but supper from whom?
Who does The P.M. have waiting in the wings to "take" private assets from their owners?
Freeport for all its issues is still miles ahead of Nassau and other out islands vis a vis crime, infrastructure, cleanliness, quality of lifestyle, and physical distance from Government. (no matter the party)
One only has to look at east end Grand Bahama, beyond the bridge to see Government ineptitude and abandonment.
Same for the west beyond Freeport Harbor. Oh how they covet that which they cannot create or maintain. This issue may well be the undoing of this administration. Bring forth the hidden driver of the bus so we the people can judge their suitability to govern Freeport!
Be Brave!
