Ironic that I just paid The Bahamas Government for my vehicle license to drive on Freeports privately owned roads...... Which after 5 major hurricanes are still in better shape than Nassau and Out island roads. Freeport, where the road sides/verges are kept clean and mowed, garbage debris removed bushes cut back From intersections, signage on all intersections and roads maintained. we even have streetlights that work...... Perhaps Fred prefers the ghetto look of Fox Hill (his constituency?) and Nassau. Quite frankly the people of Fox hill and The Bahamas deserve better.
Just when you think the chip on his shoulder is shrinking, it flares up again, larger than ever. Seems he has a personal agenda, and a skewed perspective. Time will tell.
Freeport is rebuilding slowly, on its own right and in spite of Government meddling/multiple Hurricanes destruction and port authority inaction. The Government will find that while we may disdain the Port Authority at this time, we treasure our statute law, the H.C.A. and we wish to keep the government at Arms length. That the Port has not performed up to par is on the Government also, all prior administrations. All the amendments gave government administrations what they wanted at the time, and left the Port Authority to its own devices. One also must not forget the repeated Government attacks via Bahamas Customs. H.C.A Licensee court wins 9, Government Zero.
Just when you think they can't get any worse......... A complete complication of a simple subject. The worrisome part is the tracking of people and users, causing individuals to run afoul of other legislation that considers Drug use.
I understand the Port Dept is issuing registration "extensions" while they re-evaluate the rate hikes. As is typical, someone in Government had a "bright idea" which wasn't that bright after all. All driven by a "money grab" by the Ministry of Finance.
Apparently no one pays the Morgue fee because few want to collect their Family members anyway. Pointing at the Donkey to excuse the pig is an interesting tact tho.
Taxation without representation. Maybe now we the voters will wake up/wise up and realize, we elect the problem, they solve no problems. Another $$ grab to save their lavish lifestyles. Pick your poison.
Are they that stupid that they don't realize they'll only get paid earlier the first time a "large taxpayer" shifts forward? beyond that it's still a 30 day cycle. Further to that, reconciling revivable and payables after the fact month by month creates more work. More expense. More reason to walk away. Also missing is that the poor and small businesses need Concierge services, as most struggle with proper accounting and cash flow. It reeks of legitimizing the "paying for access" the political system works on."
