The only challenge is a fickle Government renewables policy coupled with self preserving BPL/BEC management and engineering. There is no challenge for renewables anywhere in the Bahamas aside the Challenges BPL themselves present with their chronic technical issues.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Governments the world over are no longer properly constrained by the laws they should uphold, often acting above and beyond while imposing extraneous laws on their citizens.
In the end, everyone will suffer as they did nothing, until it was too late.
You would think 50 years of doing things and never gaining the desired effect would teach them something........... Even if only to STOP messing with things! 50 years of Governing by unintended consequences!
Kinda hard to make constructive arguments against sitting Government when they keep everything a secret! Same with WTO accession, claiming Consultation with the private sector but not sharing the truth! How are you gonna get intelligent feedback? As to Prices going up they may, once you remove the subsidized Bahamasair operation. Meanwhile, fast ferries could make more sense if island routes were grouped for economical feasibility.
Funny you would try to cure the basic intrinsic edict of the PLP party elected, that is, self service! Beyond funny. Good luck with that. History and values. the latter buried the former.
I see no value for money in all these conferences and Ex-jurisdictional meetings, especially for a broke nation. Get the details/summary faxed to you! The day I see motorcycle helmet laws, seatbelt laws, littering laws, bicycle licensing laws enforced, is the day I will believe we have elected a non selective Government. Cherry picking laws to throw at you but ducked by him is what undermines the rule of law and their very authority. None of them, I repeat none of them, retain their credibility for very long.
"Mr Johnson said, indicating that the government would be lenient when it came to merchants adjusting all their pricing, labelling and signage by July 1."
So, one cannot change labels and prices before hand, but are expected to have labels and prices changed over night, but you will be lenient?
Once again, full on stupidity on display. I say shut down the private sector for a week, take your time to Adapt, make sure everything works as it should, god forbid The VAT Ma Coute descends on you! With potentially thousands of bin labels on thousands of items, and needing many hand held RF guns with printers too, and that's an efficient way to get it done! Otherwise run off sheets and sheets of new Labels and let staff hunt around for months to re-tag everything! Leniency is what the public gives an undeserving Government.
The PLP has never abided rules and Regulations, so writing new ones won't matter IF they get re-elected. For that matter the same could be said for former FNM administrations.
You spend 50 years dismantling Clerical impartial rule of law, and expect to avoid all the bad aspects of doing so? Rule by connection, favor, Personality not capability get you exactly this. It is the only outcome that could be expected. We were warned, B.K. Bonamy brought the warning back from Jamaica, and we ignored it. We are still ignoring it.
