Yes, while it is hard on those islands hit, Barbuda, St. Maarten, etc, we still have a mediocre product that the world over has done once. Those islands had repeat visitors.
Would be nice to think we could be considered an alternative in the short term, the harsh reality dictates otherwise.

Rotting animal carcasses do present a health problem, as well as a possible risk to drinking water. Both of those issues must be addressed, if not by Government then by the residents properly guided.
Aside that, If they own the land, there is nothing stopping them from doing whatever thy want with it. I do not believe Government funds aught to be used at this point however.
Now, what a perfect opportunity to do an alt energy system to address and supply energy needs on that island. Carbon War Room, are you Listening? Here is your opportunity to Impress! Government aught to be divesting itself of these Massive overhead costs for essential services. What a perfect time to do one right!

Price gouging is wrong, un-ethical, and hopefully properly defined in the law.
However, hoarding, hmmm, hoarding is defined how? Particularly how is it defined in any act?
Private property is private property. "hoarding"by definition gets very close to "planning ahead"
Just another example of a lack of reasoned thinking by our supposed leadership.
A minor point, but one of hundreds that erode our rule of law.

Agreed, collect premiums, enrich shareholders, evade payouts.
Deny claims on technicalities. every trick in the book.
If there was ever an industry that needs tighter regulation it is they.

Bahamians buy plywood in a panic storm after storm, but never keep it for next time around.
They use it for roof repairs, sell it to contractors, or add a room to their house. or let it rot.
Their choice.
After Francis, Jean, Ivan and Charlie ALL hit florida plywood and roofing paper, felt, shingles had to be trucked in from Texas, Louisiana or up north. That adds to cost, as does domestic U.S. storm induced demand.
The price will rise, no doubt, but it isn't the local "blood suckers" that cause it. It is first cost rising.
Learn something about economics, supply and demand to improve your knowledge/perspective.
Oh, and just for the record, "all that money they make" off a hurricane?
It goes into buying more product, the stores own possible repairs, that will be needed if one hits!
The crazy frenzy that gets induced is nothing but a pain in the Ass.
Added to the increase in philanthropic need in the community for non profits etc,
none of it is a wind fall.

I guarantee one thing, between Houston, (Harvey) Irma potentially hitting Florida, east and west coast the price of roofing shingles (oil based products) and roofing ply will go up. (first cost, commodity items) Tar paper, peel and stick, etc.
Same thing happened after Francis and Jean, which hit Fla as well as Charlie and another named storm (was it Ivan?)

What they aught to do aside threaten "merchants" is publish a list of those guilty of same but also praise those not guilty. These blanket statements leave a bad taste and suspicion in everyones mouths and minds, and I'm sure prompt much wasted time by consumer affairs investigating false accusations.
Any merchant showing price tags as required and operating on computer based systems will tell you it would be a total pain to Adjust prices up, but then, government never asks
any one with knowledge of a given subject......however mom and pop stores that do not tag items or run computerized point of sale systems can mess about to no end.
Are there corrupt merchants? sure, but I'd be willing to bet at a lower % than corrupt politicians or civil servants.
Just saying.

Evacuating MICAL is a smart move, consider evacuating West End into Freeport also.
Those poor peeps ain't barely recovered from Matthew!
Also Beware Fake news, apparently natural disasters are subject to it as much as political crap!

Smart move. Safety first, rebuild after. Conserve resources for more heavily populated islands,
hopefully it will not be needed.
Meanwhile, the source from which all goods flow, Florida, looks to take the brunt.
Is anyone thinking of alternate chains of supply if West Palm/Lauderdale get hit hard?

The cruise lines have you by the Balls, courtesy of prior administrations.
Their shops, restaurants and casinos remain open in port, by Government agreement.
As always, they threaten to pull out if they don't get what they want, via tax exemptions, private islands etc.
Now, if the caribbean Countries actually got together......and blocked out all the ports unless you get your way........or at least some balance.....
