"Mr Ingraham, in an unusual move for a prime minister, said of Mr Schaefer: “It is most regrettable that such a person has been allowed to have that type of business in the country. He is not a good person for the Bahamas.”
Not at all unusual for Mr. Ingraham, as one targeted by him can attest.
Apparently very thin skinned.
As to Mr. Sheafer, the Bahamas has seen many "colorful Entrepreneurs" over the last century, few of whom last long. Upsetting the existing apple cart never bodes well for the interloper.
That will happen in any case soon enough.

While you slept at the Trade negotiation table a number of years ago down in JA and Barbados
you must have been vaguely aware of the commitments made by the Government you were a part of with respect of duty rates being dropped to WTO norms of 8-10%.
Did you think it would never happen? Both PLP and FNM administrations have been involved in these negotiations, which have resultd in VAT!
Do not play stupid!
Get pro-active and compete! You should have saved a fortune between tariff protection and not paying power bills!

Yet we have a government policy of "tax breaks" on real property tax if you come in and pay a reduced amount on arrears.
What about the damn fools who have been paying the full amount all along?
The above encourages delinquency!
We have it all backwards. Give people a discount for on time payment, jail time for arrears!
We need a debtors court!

Could all "retired" civil servants "re-hired" for God knows what finally be sent home for good?
That alone might make Moody's happy!

Easy contracts to cancel, 41 people in Acklins, hired to do what exactly?
Probably haven't done anything, so how about non performance?

Logician is right. as is norman_t.
Inward investment will not happen until it pays to do so.
That and overcoming the Bahamian inclination to stash $$ overseas.
Bahamians could buy the National debt but, to reset the counter to zero only to have them go hell for leather in building it back up would be insanity.
Seems there aught to be many BS contracts cancelled
but without the Stop, review and cancel political spite aspect!
That and funds recovery where ever possible.

So Now you're gonna play 20/20 hindsight?
Weren't you a part of a few of those administrations?
Bit late to get all analytical and noble and stuff.

VAT had a successful implementation because the Private sector collects it!
(and Government seems to have found the stick it wouldn't wield on itself!)
Rather than undermine or complicate VAT, reduce the duty rates as scheduled to do by 2025 anyway, which is what triggered the implementation of VAT in the first place,
Per WTO requirements and Government negotiations.

I'd like to know which insurance Co. "refused to cover her father’s medical costs"
so I can avoid them like the plague!
Or if he had coverage etc. They need regulating unfortunately, as much as I loath Government regulating anything.

The Dis-incentives Act? Thank god it is gone, It singularly provided for Government Meddling and "cherry picking" the recipients of Benefits.
And this Statement: "If the Government contracts its spending, then the economy of this country gets into deep trouble. We again say to the Government; be very careful,” said Mr Davis." has got to be the stupidest thing said in quite a while!
Government is the single largest detractor/subtractor/saboteur of the Economy!
Taxing and then giving handouts is not economic activity!
