Not having insurance, or buying insurance (or self insuring) is a conscious decision. Putting funds away for rainy days, or upgrades, or expansion, is wise utilizing forethought. The anthesis of Bahamian practice. Good luck.
Yep, Just like Cable Bahamas was apparently an Entire Cabinet deal. Thing is the Chinese are here fishing already, down south of Ragged and Long Island, Defense force won't touch them supposedly. Processing mother ships. This access gives them free license to scrub the banks of everything edible for export. So Bahamians better eat their conch and snapper, Crawfish and Grunts now cause within a couple years the only fish they will see will come in plastic bags with Chinese writing!
Darville been living in Pelican Bay hotel since the storm, along with his Entourage, plus he gotta rebuild his own house! You expect him to spend his own Million $$? With responsibility to spend $$ only Outside of Freeport, east and west, and not seeing any trees moved aside those by Citizens cleaning up their own yards, I'm with Peter on this one! Election war chest building for sure!
121 out of 190 is being very very generous: Probably more like 150 out of 190. There is no Government process in the Bahamas that goes smoothly, quickly, or is clearly outlined and adhered to. I'd love to see the World Bank spend some time on the ground talking to everyone other than Gov't, civil servants or their lackeys in business who they are probably taken to. Get the Private sector to admit to the "grease" they must pay to get goods cleared, permits, vehicles inspected, The Civil servants from whom you need services, who arrive representing their "church"......cause, you know, we look after you...... get Contractors to detail building inspector payoffs, get foreign investors to admit to "Lubing" politicians. As to the Chambers of Commerce, quickly becoming apologists for slackness, colluding with Government, seeking elected office, largely toothless.
“Individuals have reached out to government to see what initiatives are available to offer relief supplies which we have already started circulating. All relief items can only be received by NEMA. Any funding to assist with the restoration is received directly by NEMA because it is a statutory organization (which has the responsibility for that).” ---------------------- And this, is the biggest bottleneck and farce due to Government incompetence and political criteria. Legislating themselves Power with zero capability. Perhaps Grand Bahamians should be asked if they have seen NEMA? I've not seen hide nor hair of them!
Wonder if the private sector will ever wake up, stop hiding in the shadows and counter these fools, or just passively accept this garbage? or will they just allow themselves to fade away, taking all commerce with them? Has a Union in this country ever published balance sheets? Management salaries and perks? Accounted for dues contributed? Enact some of this crap and you'll see immediate adjustments and redundancies all over the place.
Foreign companies, particularly U.S. cannot give monetary donations to foreign Governments due to their Anti-Foreign Corrupt Govt. act. Which is why they prefer NGO's. Few here of which have their affairs (books) in order. As to Miller, does he not concede in this article that their "rust Buckets" don't run? Without Bucket trucks and post hole drillers what you gonna do? Run drop cords everywhere? Maybe give the "Bahamians" spike boots like the Jamaicans use? What an unmitigated @#s.
Only problem is, between politically rewarded Contractors, massive contract kickbacks and the fact that Government can't build anything well, our shelters will never be done right. It all started with the East street Post office..........Clarence Bain Building.....
