True, sell shares then quietly kill the company but retain personal ownership of all the equipment, Set up a new company with the old equipment.
I think the Economist may be right however, run it into the ground and buy cheap.
Always manipulating people and "deals" is no way to live long and prosper.

The_Oracle says...

I do not think Sir Jack only had Money in mind as a "great deal"
he did sell The Wolverhampton football team for what, 10 pounds?
“Everyone says the GBPA has to be sold, and I believe it should be sold. What cannot be aligned with me?”
Arrogance personified.

The_Oracle says...

Those who buy into the political trickle down feeding trough system have no complaint,
they bought into the system lock stock and barrel.
The crime is that the political have reduced Bahamians into accepting crap to make a living.
The sooner we all tell them to take a hike and stop voting for any of them the sooner people may emerge who can fix this country for ALL.
No decent self respecting capable person I know would have anything to do with the current elected muck.

The_Oracle says...

Crime and gang activities can be laid directly at the feet of the Political,
perhaps it is their civil liberties which should be removed!
We cannot trust politicians to account for a single dollar, but we are supposed to "trust" them to restore our civil liberties if curtailed or suspended?
I be leaving before I'll submit to that crap!
Enforce the law, reconstitute the judiciary with beyond reproach Judges Not politically appointed and build a Chinese finger trap prison for 10-15k perps.
It's what we should have had under existing law for decades!
As to Gangs, well, the PLP enabled and sanctioned them pre '92 in their rallies didn't they?

The_Oracle says...

Easy to come up with plans when one looks at the infrastructure but
Government idiocy and personal agendas/profit motive scuttle damn near everything.
Is not the Government trying right now to convince Hutch property holdings to buy out the
private ownership and turn the regulatory aspect over to them?
What would happen then to the magic city?
The private shareholders better watch out, it is fine to sleep in paradise when everything is
great, foolhardy to do so when it is not.

The_Oracle says...

Sovereign? In what single area can the Bahamas stand alone?
To whom do we owe no money? No allegiance? What do we produce?
That Wallace Groves vision was hijacked should come as no surprise,
that we sit here 3 generations later to watch yet another hijacking
speaks volumes about us!
Political parties plp 1, fnm 1,plp 2, fnm 2 and PLP 3 have all cut their private deals
and done well for themselves.

Islandgirl ya beat me to it. $280/year license fee.
Hmm. The VAT on many licensee fees is as much as his license principal!
I believe the Port's position on VAT is that it is not due on Port services rendered,
but the Port has done nothing to reverse or stop it.

Like petty thieves in a police interrogation,
"It was his idea! (Fault, job, etc etc) this finger pointing at each other aught to get them all 20 year sentences!
If we could find a Judge......

Notwithstanding the benefits of reduced costs, Emera needs to clean up their Grand Bahama Grid which is effectively the worst in the region, thereby saving the consuming public untold costs for burned out AC compressors, motors and other equipment.
Grid instability and unacceptable phase angle presented to consumer (and industrial) equipment may be beyond the average persons understanding but the recurring costs of equipment replacement is not.

I believe that was one of the original intentions for N.I.B,
except they started pillaging that from scratch, just as they do with any type of funding.
They cannot resist the temptation to spend/steal/waste/party/travel!
