Silly policy yes, perhaps but there is clarification needed on the Kw limits. Is this a limit of excess capacity that will be credited billing wise or a cap on the amount permitted to be back fed? A critical point to be answered, as the difference is huge. For the private sector Commercial other than the detailed, is Net metering allowed even though no credit will be given? Again, clarity is needed. I could live with an endless credit and even the loss of that credit annually if my power will cost me nothing beyond my return on investment. What should really control the back feed total is the ampacity of the service to a given property, and consideration of the branch leg of BEC that serves a given area. Also realize those who can afford Solar are those who can afford the BEC bill! lose those billable customers and Leslie Millers gonna have a stroke!
DonAnthony, how about the first $100 at the grocery store be free also? And the first $10 in gas per week? There is no such thing as free, period, someone will pay for it. If Government, we will all pay for it thru increased taxation. If the private sector, prices will increase or the businesses will shut down. I agree with the first part of your comment, The political elite will always look after themselves, but at your expense. Where do you think the need for VAT comes from? No doubt the winning bidder has already been told that those houses will be done with solar "gratis" 37th out of 38 Caribbean Countries with Solar implementation folks, bleed on.
Their cost to generate: 12-16cents per KWh, so they, on their white horse come to save us will make a 10-12 cent per KWh killing. Once BEC adds their margin, you're still @ 40 cents/ KWh.
Can the government do anything without confusion and ineptitude? A good start in any case, besides, policy is policy, not law. One good bowel movement and policy could change without notice. And BEC still has to implement net metering meters, while functionally broke and begging for money for fuel.
Show Vat exclusive pricing by simply adding a Vat amount sticker beside/ beneath all your existing stickers. By now you should be using bin labels not individual item stickers anyway. In this way none of your stickers need to be replaced as your price inclusive of duty should not change immediately. You can add Vat tax amount stickers NOW, and start charging it on Jan 3rd. Help the people see who is screwing who. Do you really want to take the heat for the Govt?
Mad hatter the moment you allow yourself to buy into the political game/argument you're lost. Change the game, think for self. OK, So a 3rd party is the key? How does one create a tribe from scratch when everyone already belongs to one or the other of the existing two tribes? The only way is to promise/give more then they're already getting, which means you must buy a tribe and pay a premium for it. Now, try to get those who float the two existing tribes election cash, to float a third. Do you see value in that picture? Wake up to the reality of Bahamian politics.
I wonder how much money Sir William, Pindling, Ingraham, and all the party cronies etc etc etc have off-shored? It is not the multi billion imports bill that has created the deficit, it is the political pilferage, waste, boodoggles, Government over-reach and negligence in tax collection that is responsible for the deficit. The more lies built atop lies, the more transparent the lies become. And you Sir, have presided over a part of it yourself.
Seems PGC has rolled back the environmental fees levied against certain items imported, If one assumes the fee is for the Government to eventually foot the disposal bill of these items and the money will not hit the General Consolidated account but be escrowed against the costs then fine, but In Freeport Garbage disposal is the responsibility of Sanitation services, as contracted by the G.B. Port Authority. No, they are not one and the same, all assets were stripped out of the G.B.Port Authority some years ago, Sanitation is privately owned. Now if we could only get PGC to stop the Business to Business services VAT idiocy........
