Look no further than the mirror Mr. Christie, for the real disappointment. the travesty of the Numbers, Do you owe them, or do you owe the Bahamian people? Tis the people and history that will judge you Sir. Harshly.
I feel for Mr.Rolle, seemingly a Theoretical and IMF indoctrinated Point man. The Political send him out and he returns battered and bruised every time. He does not know his subject as it pertains to actual business operations. Still, the Government is playing very very cagey with the final situation, leaving things entirely too late for Computer systems to be programmed/created to provide the reporting they seem to want. The IMF that is. The Govt just wants the money. From the people. $300 million more than they take already. Which still isn't enough. Makes ya wonder what is next? VAT is not the end game.
Mr. Christie is caught between a rock and a hard place, betwixt doing the lawful and right thing, shut them down confiscate the illegal ill gotten gains and jail them, and then himself for accepting their money for their election purchase, or legalizing them which will have dire consequences for the entire country no matter how you voted or if you play numbers or not. As for heaven and hell, I sure hope there is a heaven, cause they're creating hell on earth right here.
So is it 18.67 or 23%? I'm asking here cause not a single damn fool government price control or consumer affairs employee will tell you! Nor can you find it online. Nor can you trust them to know. Ironic that they are also the ones who will fry yo backside if you're found in error. Can we get some collective aptitude testing done here please?
The height argument is irrelevant: What is relevant is the stagnation caused by incompetent governance and gerrymandering of the permitting, zoning and licensing of Bahamians who would Invest their own Money, which should be their right! If Bahamians would stop going to the Government and Begging, and instead start demanding according to the laws of the land, the Politicians would be de-fanged. Yes we have created them, it is high time we discard them.
They are impressed and intrigued UNTIL they get into the details, at which point the mist clears and reality sits in. Instability and a Port like a chicken without a head. Bahamianborn is right however, if it is not worth fighting for, so be it, it will vanish. No one will pay both port and Government License fees, nor Port service charges and Property tax.
There is only one course of action open to the Bahamas Government consistent with the rule of law, and based on previous criminal actions: Confiscation of assets and the proceeds of illicit activities as and when convicted in a court of law. Anything otherwise is highly unethical and opens a pandoras box of appeals and scrutiny from the quarters now running our country, ie oecd, imf, etc etc. Do Drug dealers not forfeit cash, contraband and assets? Does not the petty thief forfeit his ill gotten gains? how, in the face of all rationale can this administration, no matter how beholden to the Numbers lords they may be, Wash them as one would wash the heathen in the baptismal font? Insanity that we will pay dearly for . For the record, I have never played the numbers and will never play the numbers. Therefore, I am not conflicted on the subject, unlike most.
The refunds to Grand Bahama Businesses only pertain to pre-duty (and VAT) paid goods purchased from Nassau distributors. In large part, established Nassau merchant distributors have had their agencies and exclusivities reinforced by the Bahamas signing onto the EU-EPA under the rules of the WTO In reality, very little will be claimed back due to the consumer oriented items in question. Overall, VAT input refunds will be weighed against VAT throughput on the Gross sales, goods or services. TO Proudloudandfnm, it was your P.M. and his Junior minister that committed us to this, but notwithstanding that fact, the PLP has to implement via IMF pressure. A very great pressure. The Parties have been kicking this ball back and forth for at least 10 years. Tag, your it.
Birdie, you would do well to remember that it was the Government of the Bahamas who signed the Hawksbill Creek agreement that created a city and harbor out of dirt, swamp and bush, and granted TAX concessions to those who would come to invest and build it! Notwithstanding that, the Government administrations since 1969 have none nothing but receive hundreds of millions in tax money collected from Freeport ever since, in spite of their perverted and long running attempts to kill it! Fred and a few others are to be thanked for standing between the Government bulldozers and blatant disrespect of Statute law! A disrespect which continues to this day. As for Mr. Rolle, perhaps he should study his subject as the mistakes he made were quite remedial, and shocked the hell out of all present. To his credit, he did issue a retraction, which incidentally had a mistake in it all on its own. DO you know enough about the H.C.A. to spot it?
