Connecting grid tied solar is a no brainer, there is a whole section of the Canadian Electrical code (the code we observe) dedicated to Grid tied solar. This is not rocket science folks, nor voodoo. BEC just doesn't want to lose control. Plus, grid tied solar equipment will show just how bad the phase angle is, and how erratic the cycles are. The Government doesn't want to lose the few paying customers they have. In Grand Bahama Emera does not want it either, but in Canada they have a very friendly Solar grid tied policy. Go figure. Meanwhile, back at the Government ranch, things are piling up. Still no policy.
The level of Ignorance surrounding taxation in general astounds me. All taxes the world over from a business perspective are a cost of doing business. just like the first cost of goods, shipping, insuring those goods, brokerage and duty on all the above. All these costs, and salaries, Business license,Power and water bills, vehicle maintenance, Licensing of those vehicles, and ALL THE other COSTS of doing business end up factored into what we pay for both goods and services. Taking the long running animosity we as a whole have for anyone successful in this country, whether along racial lines or wealth out of the picture, if the costs increase, the price increases. If the taxes increase, the costs increase. VAT hits every stage of manufacturing, supply and sale, which for us means import and resale. However, VAT has the distinction of requiring serious record keeping, something that Bahamians have never before had to do, nor learn how to do. ( Save trying not to lose drivers licenses passports and documents related to property etc) VAT also has its own detailed penalties system which goes far beyond our current law (unobserved) and apparently accepted practice ( which judging from the recent leaks is horrendous, seems few pay their bills or taxes!) under which The Government has given itself the power to seize both assets and money, and is proposing the power to restrict travel until satisfied. In short, VAT if implemented in January has the potential to hit everyone hard through the increased cost of business but most importantly the general state of unreadiness of both Government and the public at large. Like trying to enter a formula 1 race track with a race in progress in a Chevrolet Aveo, there is going to be much pain!
But the Government fears Freeport, always has, The Merchants of Nassau have always resented not being invited in by Sir Stafford and Groves. The Port share holders already have their millions pillaged, Hutchinson never came here to Grow Freeport, they were here for their Port and Airport which they were given for a song. The Port Authority management is doing exactly what the owners want, maintain the status as is, cost us as little money as possible. Middle managers at its best. How many tourists become investors have been run out of here when they run into the typical Port/Govt run around? Any ass can see the potential, it is the unseen forces that keep the fiefdom in check.

While there is the potential of accidents, and drones getting into aircraft flight approaches, the biggest concerns are those of privacy, or being videoed without consent. Hopefully all this press is with good intentions, and not "close the barn door, cause i'm through"

(no thief will vote to hang thieves) the same rule of law they will be wanting desperately to protect them when the angry mob comes calling, and calling names. They and they alone are the sole reason the Bahamas is in the dismal fiscal situation it is in, and by Bahamas I mean its people, rich, middle class and poor. The power to tax, coupled with fostering despair and exclusion, are the most onerous of human conditions and most likely to cause major unrest. Not among the poor, but among the rapidly diminishing middle class. Despotism has no nationality, no society is immune from itself or its own.
The Government has shown a dismal record on tax collection under the Authorities it currently has at its disposal, and has always had. So they have decided a bigger stick is needed! They should learn to use (and thereby respect) the stick they already have. But nooooooo, because there are some people they want and need to harass, target and steal money from. Control. Unlimited power.
Funny how we adopt the U.S. traditions around our Bahamian flag, but never stop to think how we desecrate and disgrace it daily ourselves. There can be no pride without shame, no good without evil. And what does our flag represent? pray tell.......
Miller is trying to paint us all with the same brush, a brush the PLP own and wield with apparent immunity! Try standing before a Judge with the defense he uses, when he is found wanting on his own bill: "Many businesses owe arrears......"
