Ministry of Finance people simply following the former administrations initiative, again trying to split off the foreign concerns through separate heads of agreement for concessions, leaving Bahamian concerns without cover. The H.C.A. is not specified as being for foreigners only, and was designed for the benefit of the entire Bahamas.
Just what the PLP and FNM want, all of us distracted by petty pissing wars with each other. It allows the crap to continue to float over all our heads. Bahamian men do not want Women as equals, they grew up with women telling them what to do when growing up, as men were absent. Still are.
Problem with privatization is they will give "exclusivity" to the new BEC owners if privatized, effectively shutting out solar for Individuals who can and should be allowed to invest for themselves. Amazing to see the idiots bouncing around with no more clue as to the direction to go, we will be sitting in exactly the same spot in 5 years, just broker!! Fools and incompetents.
Band Aids on real problems, Typical Bahamian response. The adult population destroys the youth then moves to stop them destroying themselves! Humans will always abuse chemicals, medicines, drugs, Power, authority, influence, Give enough people titles and soon enough nothing will be allowed.
The Last time the licensees tried to be "recognized" in Court, Ingraham & Laing Likely interfered with the Registrar Generals issuing of their Certificate of Incorporation, notwithstanding their Documentation all being in order and fees paid. Just as The Licensees had " no locus standi" before the Judge, Bahamians will end up with none in the Bahamas either. The Port Authority has been stripped of its assets, both Political parties have benefited from the largess of the Port Principals, The countries greatest opportunity squandered by blind mice.
Wow, look at all the projects coming out of the woodwork, and probably all have a measure of viability, and certainly could be profitable to the owner/operators. BUT: Ya gatta get the approvals and permissions, and crown land grants and sea bed leases from the Government! Good luck with that. Likewise Government will not allow private individuals and companies to go ahead and do for themselves, as this equates to "loss of control" for them, and loss of the bill paying public.
Yup, Filipinos, Cubans, Haitians, Dominicans, all facilitated for the connected. Mind, we have signed trade agreements which allow for the movement of "goods and Services" and Direct foreign investment without our typical bureaucratic stalling/payoff/fronting/manipulation.
Aye, tis Laing under Ingraham who signed on the dotted line committing the Bahamian people to these new forms of taxation. In fact they themselves deferred and delayed, and kept the public largely ignorant of what is in store. Signing the EU-EPA, a WTO "super agreement" was largely putting the cart before the horse, Real property taxes on undeveloped land, Out Island properties, equal to Bahamian opportunity for Foreign direct investment and direct market entry, all on a scheduled timeline. seems we are not so special in our own country after all, nor really in charge of our own affairs. Mr Laing may claim we are not ready, but he knows why the IMF is pressuring the now Govt. Mr. Laing knows the PLP has had to "Back into" this stuff. Seems his "people" left with all the documentation the new administration would need going forward. So much for being a Sovereign nation.
