When people who produce, who act, who have knowledge, must seek the permission of those who do not and can not, Your society is doomed. The inevitable result of bureaucratic Ignorance is No action, stagnation. When all actions are accompanied by Tax, or fee, action is discouraged, talent is withdrawn. Pillaging existing stored wealth via new means of taxation is all that is left, until it is also gone.
They are paid for water produced and supplied, if the Govternment "pisses it away" it is because Government maintains (or doesn't) leaky pipes, not Consolidated. Am I, as a Food store for example, required to cook the food for you? Eat the left overs? Take back spoiled food YOU didn't use?
This is half the problem in our country, ridiculous expectations that someone should and will look after us!! Consolidated saw a business opportunity, negotiated and signed with OUR Government! If OUR Government thought Leaky pipes were an issue, it still remains THEIR issue. The Government is the squanderer, and they have no problem tolerating themselves at our expense! As for the solar projects, utility sized, $0.25/Kwh is "rape" but we loose our clothing on that price, not Government Ministers and their hacks. 0.12-18/Kwh is doable here.
They get through because the U.S. 7th fleet cannot police Bahamian waters thoroughly! Drones, radar sites, long range Thermal imaging on cell towers, Satellite surveillance, grid flights could pretty efficiently, but we don't have any of that.........
Sorry, but Fred Mitchel claiming that the Bahamas operates on "rules and regulations" is ludicrous! We have rules and regulations, but are adept at ignoring and or bypassing them! Every one of our politically elected seems to be an "independent operator"
Personally I wonder what the tourists thought about the Condom Bill boards! I'll bet most visitors are staying aboard with their cash and valuables too.
Sadly, we are not willing to do what must be done to reverse the deterioration. We have marginalized what has become a majority of the population. The lawless, the clueless, the desperate, the broke. Between the Ruling elite, and the wealthy supporters both foreign and domestic, the real problem is not even recognized yet. No cure is possible until the ailment is admitted to, and expertise sought.
Countries who did Petro Carib are now facing increased interest on their "loans" of Fuel oil. Jamaica is having to revise their fiscal picture due to this "surprise". As for BEC, seems we are scared of "Bahamian investor groups" who for the most part are politically connected opportunists, and Foreign investor groups who want to profit at our expense. Profit is not a bad thing, but expatriated U.S. reserves is. Seems we are stuck with a costly lose lose situation. As always.
Amazing how the Rules can be cited when needed, but ignored in principal and actions when not wanted. Both Parties are guilty of this common practice. When the rules are dismantled, mayhem will eventually ensue. Because what has really been dismantled, is the peoples protection under the law, and their legal recourse, When the Government comes after them!
