I also received one (same thing) from a Tribune Reporter, whom I notified immediately. I have received this from two other people, neither of whom would send me anything important. It appears Google is not always your friend!
The Chinese should have built us a prison for 30k people, not a Stadium. The only bracelet that works properly is called a manacle. No batteries required.
Why have a threshold at all? Is that not discriminatory? Talk about reducing us to a nation of One room shops! What idiot would invest and try to grow beyond $50 or $100k if one is "penalized" for doing so? Our Government has colluded with foreign bureaucracies and entities to our detriment, joining All Governments in the pillaging of privately held earnings and wealth.
If anything, more companies will fall back to under 50 or 100K, which ever is chosen.
Just as Bahamian businesses who can slide by stay under the 500K audit requirement! Talk about a dis-incentive to grow. Accountants and Govt rubbing their hands in glee, are in for a disappointing result.
If Government is as serious about VAT as they are crime, legal prosecutions, garbage collection, Building permits, shanty town creation, etc etc We are in for total mayhem. Which is why they will not reduce import taxes until they have banked some additional revenue. Like N.I.B. contributions, Some seem immune from compliance. The E.U has a huge Cash based underworld Economy, growing day by day. The bigger the hurdle, the incentive there is to go around it.
Political interference does not have to be direct, nor directed: Prosecutors, registrar Generals, every Civil servant through the ranks must simply do what they "think" the Politicos in power would have them do, as a matter of self preservation. This is where political persecution happens most often and through the ranks. All the Civil servant must do is not do the wrong thing by the Chief of the day. This also gives the political heads some cover, in their claims of not directly interfering. They interfere via their rhetoric, personal actions, and perceived agendas. Consider Fred Mitchel and his Work permit statements of a few months ago, no doubt caused a renewed Lynch mob mentality among some Immigration officers, and stress upon those at the head of immigration. Did they not step right up to and over the plate at Atlantis? (challenging the Dolphin trainer in front of tourists) This would never have happened under Ingraham, him being buddy buddy with Sol. Perception in political alignment is critical to survival in the civil services.
I believe Bahamians will only be allowed to participate after Christie and Ingraham have cut the pie for their own personal benefit. Maybe we'll get to share 1% divided by 100,000 or more.
If these new tax structures are all due to WTO accession, and because we have signed on to the EU-EPA and carib-can "Super WTO Trade agreements", And are being told what to do by the imf, oecd and others, Can someone in authority please detail a timeline of who, and when, in each successive Administration, signed us on to all these different Ex-Territorial Laws, rules and requirements/Commitments? Does our Constitution remain the law of the land? Has it been superseded by the laws of other lands? Lord knows that we are passing legislation like bad gas without spilling the beans but are way behind in many areas.
Fortuitous sale Bennet, good time to sit back and watch, these Tax changes are going to lay many businesses flat on their backsides mainly via lack of information and the standard Bahamian disbelief it will ever happen. The Devil is in the details, and thus far that are none! The cost of living and cost of doing business is going to increase dramatically, eliminating many businesses net profit, net profits that have been shrinking for decades.
The new tax structures/increases so far are also not the total that have been agreed to by our Govt Administrations over the last 20 years, look for more surprises each year for the next 3-4 years. The schedule is in play.
