Successive governments have assisted the cruise lines in their quest for a closed money loop. From airlift, hotel accommodations, transport, cruise and return, they make/take it all. Successive governments have reduced Bahamians to begging for peanuts, even so far as rebating taxes and fees from the treasury. They had an opportunity post covid to change the game, but instead bent over backwards to beg them to come back, with even more concessions and private islands. Insanity.
Correct me if I'm wrong but Civil servants either make no contributions or the Government is supposed to make contributions on their behalf and has not/does not? So the Private sector is forced into the government run Ponzi scheme, supporting the whole fiasco with the $1.5bn fund depleted (past tense) by 2028? It was known this would happen, the minute the politicians saw $$, and gave themselves access to it.
Note that all legislation passed since 1992 includes "summary conviction" and now "Spot fines" thereby bypassing a citizens right to their day in court. But no one says a word....... Couple that with selective enforcement.........

Bureaucratically speaking, “most favored Nation” means there can be no favorites. Duty has to go away, per WTO accession, which is why VAT was put in. Perhaps if more Bahamians had paid attention back in 2004 when all this started we may have had some influence.
