Why are they spending 20 million to get maybe 6 million in renovations to a building that should be condemned? More crony contracts?
What happened to the new hospital on Sunrise Highway?
Deferred again?

The Problem is our total reliance on U.S. $$ supplied by tourists almost exclusively.
With those essential U.S. $$ comes the real potential to see a resurgence in Covid.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
usually called a life and death decision, but in this case Death or death.
As to the economy, the damage is done. There will be more economic casualties for quite some time. Many many businesses were marginal to start with.
It is interesting to note the government has taken no hit, civil service were paid in full to stay home.payroll and their perks, just the working "partner"(private sector) took the damage.

When will Government learn that thousands of smaller enterprises, cottage industries, boutique hotels, farming cooperatives, the majority Bahamian owned, would be infinitely better than these much touted massive Anchor Projects, foreign owned, which inevitably hit rock bottom and fail.
The country is littered with failed large scale projects. But the land is still tied up in most of these, lying fallow, blocking any other project. Freeport Is a prime example of lying fallow.
It seems you just have to appeal to the politicians sense of greed and you receive carte blanche.
Perhaps an investment in Civil service training to switch their thinking/actions from deny/stall/steal/lose documents/cherry pick might help. Why should any P.S. or minister micromanage any dept? Even worse why must Prime Ministers micromanage all depts?
God forbid the Government ever recognize the potential in the People that they and they alone hold down and suppress.

No Worries, they'll change things another dozen times before the month is over.
The severity of the Fines is not commensurate with all the other minor boondoggled allowances and peculiarities.

Food vouchers, like in WW2 or Communist Russia in the cold war.
That which is free will always be in short supply.

The problem with tribalism, is there is always a challenger to the tribal leader.
usually the leader puts insurrection down most brutally. Or gets deposed.
Tribalism is indeed a well used system of leadership when there is not a constitution that governs.
We have failed the system, and yet they re-write the system/write new laws to address their own failure. Does anyone think the Curfew serves any purpose beyond an attempt to control crime? /Perhaps a curfew has succeeded where they have failed?
But, to wit, he has issued a statement that personifies the failure of self Governance.
Andros has little for that very same arrogance and self appointed important position.

"Mr Bowleg said North Andros residents are not desperate for an economic stimulus."
I wonder if the people of Andros agree with that statement?
Looked pretty depressed (as it always has) the last time I was there, a year ago.

And here on full display is the exact reason why the Bahamas is stuck in the muck it has crated for itself:
No politician should ever have to be consulted. The laws of the land provide for certain processes to be followed, documents to be provided, and if all is in order, stamped and approved.
By now there are probably 20 individuals that are on the line for shingles as promised/extorted.
Politicians may have oversight, but no insertion in the process.
Funny how so many people have the self assigned right to prevent, stop and delay,
but none have the capability to simply approve or do.

Government, based upon their track record will no doubt screw it up.
G.B. Is the island for such a project, but the Port ownership/management would screw it up with the Governments help anyway.
The Hawkbill Creek agreement needs major re-structuring, but not elimination as Government has wanted since 1968. Disentangle the useless shareholders, get them off the "crumbling plantation" and til it into something that resembles the original intention.
You have licensees with legitimate vested economic interests, who have been very tolerant of both Port Authority and Government gerrymandering.
Andros could and should be the country's bread basket. As it is it produces more than any other Island irrespective of Government ineptitude.
But no, we'd rather consult with the same old cronies and crooks.

“Thanks, just canceled a week in great harbor. Too complicated to get tested during a specific time span. Then to have to deal with the regular immigration stuff and personnel there is just not worth the trouble.
Been going several times a year for several years, always hoped it would get better some time but it doesn't. Now this, not for me.”

From a website forum of 35,000 members, plenty making the above decision.
