Everything the govt has done in the past month in GB and Bimini are attempts to sway voters with money and promises of money as opposed to good governance. Obie was in that seat for 2 years and couldnt get a finished building opened and a road paved. Put whatever label you want on it.
Yup our strategy is to keep the cream at the bottom.
His statement is reminiscent of Brave Davis basically saying we did everything right from a regulatory standpoint after the FTX collapse. The the trial started and it showed we did nothing right and just made the Bahamas govt look like a bunch of clout chasing wannabes.
We is just do a bunch of dumb stuff. Then talk about all the planning we put into disaster preparedness. Every crisis shows how third world we are. I take that back, rather how well we keep the cream at the bottom so everything becomes a cockup.
Speaking from personal experience, people need protection from the elephant in the room in charge of the submission process. I have a serious problem with people who appear on boards of 50 entrepreneurial "help" organizations and running their own private competing business. It only stands to reason that if a good idea comes across your desk, before that budding innovator has a single meeting, you've gotten 30mil to launch the idea as your own.
**That is the dumb*est* statement I've ever heard next to the acting Port controller's statement. The reason you have flight attendants, policemen, firemen, coast guard, saying "stay calm", "dont touch the wires", "breathe", .. is precisely because people panic in disasters and need to be directed and reminded what to do to save their own lives.**
I often wonder if there's a secret society of dumb people in the Bahamas whose only role is the spread of ignorance. One man had the temerity to say "people just looking to be heroes". This boat owner is in a world of trouble. Every accounting just gets worse. One day some group will sue the govt of the Bahamas for promoting such poorly regulated excursions. I said last week that I hoped the dumb statements wouldnt make intl news... well that ship has sailed.
"*Acting Port Controller Berne Wright said last week that the vessel and its captain complied with regulations. He said issues related to how staff reacted are covered by the company’s operational procedures, not regulations.*"
I dont know him and he's likely competent in some area, but with a statement like this he should never be confirmed in that post. It's the most irresponsible statement I've ever heard from a safety regulator
Waiting for the port controller to make a statement that fire safety is an internal matter. I honestly dont understand why "Bahamian experience" mean everything have to look like a shantytown. Where that come from? That een Bahamian. People selling all over the sidewalk is a recent development just like running the red light... I guess you could argue that law and disorder is cultural .. how else can bribery be so profitable and commonplace... gee me 20 dollars for lunch
For items in the 6-10 dollar range, Solomons has prices 2 dollars lower than Super Value. The fruits and vegetables are as also cheaper. Same brands. The stores have the same square footage, same business license, same import duties, same electricity. Does Super Value have that much difference in staff costs to account for a 2 dollar per item difference?
Satellite service is expensive, spotty, weather sensitive and I believe slower than fibre. Just think satellite phone, nobody walks around all day using a satellite phone, it's for a very specific purpose, remote location or post disaster. All Bahamians heard was "Elon Musk" and everybody want hop on. I see why Loom, Nygard, Sam Bankman Joe Ledher ... who I miss, were successful here. All you gatta hint at is some far flung chance at money and Bahamians bite
I know 90% of the MPs salivating at the chance to get a conversation with Elon Musk. As if. Who knows how many junkanoo groups... and other "things" would get sponsored
Lol, the attached photo identifies the father @93 as the one on the "left". But that is indeed incredible. That strength and endurance at 93. They're both doing a good work
