"*She retired voluntarily*"... yeah, after we made the environment so distasteful and put so much pressure on her that she finally left in disgust. Hooray for corruption!
Imagine if the PM had stood up like a real leader and said: this is an example of the vigilance we want in our civil servants, if you see something wrong say something, because we want to portray the image of an efficient transparent govt. We thank Mrs Ferguson and as a token of our appreciation we present her the first Civil Guardian award of 5 thousand dollars.
If the PM had made such a statement would Mrs Ferguson have retired?
You forgot the fact that the people in Andros were bathing and drinking fuel for 10months from a BPL oil spill before any public acknowledgement from BOL. No public announcements not to use ground water, nothing from the ministry of Health.
Dont speak about Grand Bahama where for almost a decade residents spoke about weird smells, ground shaking, explosions and strange activity including men in hazmat suits walking around (the latter was one incident reported in the Tribune, sound of an explosion then men seen in hazmat suits and NO announcement from the govt), people dying of cancer and nothing.
Then theres the Equinor spill, the farmer being advised that he could not sell his animals due to oil contamination, was his property cordoned off? Were signs posted? How far did the contamination extend? Nothing.
**In the US these incidents would be the cause for serious fines against the offending companies**
Our high cancer rates are most likely due to more than just genetics but decades upon decades of covered up poisonings
Is he good enough for another team to pick him up despite the baggage? This is when the parliamentarians need to show up in the pics... when he needs them not when they need him for publicity. I hope he regroups and comes back a stronger athlete. He needs a strong male authority
"*As the news comes that Kenya’s deployment of police officers to the country has run into a legal challenge, our own consideration of sending Bahamians into Haiti to tackle gang violence there has had surprisingly little discussion.*"

Notwithstanding that govt taxes and fees and duties are waaay too high on every conceivable thing, less retailers is likely a part of the solution. The problem with most businesses in the Bahamas is everybody expects to do exactly the same thing and make 100% profit off of a very small market. It leads to astronomical prices. No matter what time period you refer to for modern Bahamas prices have always been outrageous, for everything.
If there were less retailers, each would have more customers, their margins would be low and profits would depend on volume like they do everywhere else in the world.
There would be no empty gas stations for 80% of the day. Business would be constant.
It's not a Christian nation. That's utter foolishness. It just sounds nice to say it. The bible talks about being "*in the world but not of the world*", to me that means be sensible but maintain your value system. It is not sensible to allow an open illegal migration flow from a poor nation with 12 million people to a poor nation with 450,000 people. We have an illusion of not being a poor nation that illusion is crumbling as food, housing and gas prices creep up. The question is what is the sensible alternative that would provide help.
Summary: they dont know who was on board. No passenger manifest for a commercial transport. Let's hear all the rules they'll put in place to prevent this from happening. Repeatedly. They claim 22 but who knows?
Islanders who use these transports as a means to get to and from work, please buy a life vest and wear it the entire trip. You could be rendered unconscious and unable to swim or tred water. The only person concerned about your safety is you.
The solution is to stem the tide and send a strong message that we cannot sustain an open door immigration policy. The US with all the money, resources, jobs and land in the world cant do it how can we? **Parliament needs to invoke the clause in the constitution that allows them to change the *age 18 - right to apply* on national security grounds. The continuous influx of illegal immigrants from a country with a population 24 times our size is a clear and present danger to national security.** Does this immigration imbalance exist anywhere else?
The solution to Haiti is Haiti. We can only help with economic growth innovation and obliterating corruption. Right now we're on a sure path to becoming like Haiti.
I'm beginning to believe the reason this issue cant be fixed by any administration is because it's like the carnival pay to play. When you in charge you get the money when we in charge we get the money.
