It's important to identify the problem, it is not "*gaps*" or "*Bgroups*" or even "*length of the parade*"
The problem is *quality* entertainment. One hour of prodigal sons and music makers in current form is not "quality" "entertainment". Any given year you can throw in at least one of the major groups onto that list for "two" hours of "*what next?*"
"*complaints from Junkanoo fans who waited long hours for Major A groups to rush Bay Street. **Said from New Years Eve that even if they achieve "*shorter gaps*" it will *not* solve the problem**. It is a long parade and for 90% of the time it is **boring**. Their only grace is that Bahamians, the largest fanbase, have accepted that an 8 to 10 hour wait is worth it to see 15mins of their favourite group... then leave.
**Internationally, spectators also wait extended times to see their favourite groups, but that wait is always followed by ~three hours of end to end excitement and seeing exactly the thing that was advertised**.
Anybody tasked with creating a worldclass product would realize the approach to the junkanoo parade is a decades old failed entertainment strategy. If we continue to accept it because "*this junkanoo*", then please let's stop talking about monetization because only us here accept mediocre
"*collaboration between the new body, the National Junkanoo Committee and Junkanoo groups to improve parade flow and execution.*"
Junkanoo has been a boring 6-10 hour event, sprinkled with a few minutes of excitement from one prepared A-group post six hour wait, for decades now. The scrap group fillers were always a problem, people complained about boring stretches with too many scrap groups, now the suggestion is more scrap groups to fill gaps. Should they close the gaps tonight, there's still the spectacle of too many poorly organized groups with unfinished costumes. It looks like we'll lie to ourselves about the problems till New Year's Day 2027.
Added to that, the new committee announced icing on a dumb cake. "Skyboxes". Then surprise, junkanoo now starts with an opening prayer and a speech from the PM, who came up with this???? Why do we always inject this profiling craziness into everything. They did the same for the Grand Lucayan Opening rally, it is so weird.
"*I can tell you all of us in the government are concerned — I would say deeply concerned — about the knock-on effects that this has on the tourism sector.*"
These guys just continue to cause chaos.
Why implement a new policy without analyzing the projected impact? Maury has been saying for a year this would cause a drop off in boating sector, so it's not like it was impossible to consider. **Make a decision as is your right, but for God's sake please start assessing risk and creating the plan of action should an identified risk materialize BEFORE implementing policy**. This repeated "*oops look what happen, we're reviewing...*" is ridiculous
"*access to the US must also be viewed in the context of The Bahamas’ own labour needs*"
This is as big a stretch as the earlier proposed no visa requirements at all. There are no drives of US citizens flocking to the Bahamas for work. That description is characteristic of the Haitian migrant. Speaking of which,
"***By February 2026, Haitian migrants in the U.S.** face significant changes as their Temporary Protected Status (TPS) officially ends on February 3, 2026, meaning **over 350,000 beneficiaries must find other legal ways to stay or prepare for departure, with DHS citing national interest and conditions in Haiti***"
**Did this have anything to do with the asylum bill**? Notice that national security is cited **and** conditions in Haiti is given as a cause of the national security concern, opposite to what the law our local desk bangers rammed through here does, that we must take everybody in "because of" conditions in Haiti.
Wouldnt it be ironic if the US now considers the Bahamas "Haiti" because of the years "somebody" has continued to rake in money facilitating the illegal landing of tens of thousands of Haitian migrants?

**The truth about most people who commit crimes is, in the light of day, they are indeed, normal, loving people**. Simply, some voice in their head convinced them that they could do a thing, rob, rape, murder, smuggle, benefit from it and nobody would know. And most people with a friend or family member caught in the situation would plead for mercy as well, because the person "they know" is a warm individual. The legal system on the other hand says if you commit a .crime, you pay, regardless of how nice you are, especially for crimes that pose severe negative impact on society. Of course in the Bahamas there's the nuance of how much money you have and who you know. And if youre a sitting politician (you could remain in the HOA or even run again if you like) or you brush up your image with humanitarian work it works even better
I've no objection to sending him home if he is indeed terminally ill. There's no prison sentence worse than months of pain followed by sure death. I'd say consideration should be made for the event of recovery, if there's a possibility, he should not be allowed to resume normally after the damage to the country.
