"*Shortly before 8am, police were alerted by Shot Spotter to multiple gunshots in the area of Williams Lane off Kemp Road.*"
I really question our use of technology and the thought we put into system design. Anyone who's heard gunshots knows the sounds echo for miles. These areas are so densely populated, the police most likely got multiple calls from concerned residents. Why the need to point out that the police were alerted by "shotspotter"? Everytime they mention that, the reporter should immediated ly ask how many phone reports did you get? Even one would suffice. Shotspotter's detection capability is not an effective use of the technology in our house on top of house society and was misused for this purpose. A better application would have been "*from the break*" to integrate with video technology. But someone in the room would have had to have been non star struck by technology or the foreign presentation team, and asking hard questions. Said so years ago but years later we still justifying this *detection* angle
This wasn't "*shooting at church*:, this was "*shooting at basketball park*". The targets werent going to prayer meeting. Using *church* is click and drama bait. But we definitely headed in the wrong direction
If the excuse "*I didnt know*" is enough for everyone to say "*oh ok*", we are all doomed for a serious disaster. Because disaster management is all about information. The Speaker was wrong for thinking Russell should have been onsite, Russell was wrong for the lack of coordination on information between agencies and a one man i.e. nonexistent, command center and Laroda and Pintard were wrong for accepting "*I didnt know*" as a valid explanation
i like Captain Russell too. He's in that post because he exhibited excellence during a previous hurricane I believe. So we know he has a competency. The question is whether he's effective in the higher position. We keep getting surprises on simple issues. And while they simple when the clouds blue they could be disastrous when the winds blowing and the seas rough
I dont agree with the piling on on the Speaker. I suspect it has root in some form of passive chauvinism. *how she could talk to big man like that*. Because I remember clearly DAguilar doing the exact same thing to Ian Poitier, an educated, bright Bahamian... Harvard or Oxford I dont recall, someone who held a senior post (may have led) the UK Creatives transformation program and DAguilar said of him basically ~*I dont know why he's in tourism, I dont see that he adds anything. And why he getting all this money?*. (I could be wrong but I suspect Poitier is the person behind those beautiful speeches Brave has been delivering on the world stage. If I am wrong I apologize to the super talented author). My memory is fuzzy, but I dont recall Pintard asking DAguilar to apologize when the information he used to attack Poitier publicly in the HOA was proven to be false. DAguilar simply said, no comment Im not talking about it anymore
The speaker was wrong to lambaste an employee publicly but I wonder if Pintard really took the time to analyze the statement from nema the first part of which said Captain Russell CALLED the MET of to find out if there was a tornado.... i leave that there
nobody in this entire episode seems to have a clue
"*June 2022, usnorthcom and NEMA will conduct a whole-of-government exercise that tests the response to a catastrophic Category 5 Hurricane impacting the entirety of The Bahamas.*"
Well... this June now, they could grade the tornado response
"*At no time during these interventions, did the agency, nor any of its emergency support functions, receive reports of residents in the Bamboo Town area being impacted by the tornadic activity.*"
**Failure.** Why dont they recognize that this is not the way this is supposed to work?
"*Captain Russell immediately consulted with Mr Jeffrey Simmons, acting director of The Bahamas Department of Meteorology,*"
So YOU had to "initiate" a conversation with the MET office to find out about a weather emergency??? And the MET office wasn't aware of a 3rd tornado?? What type of planning has NEMA done? And where's your line for the public to report unusual disaster related activity?
For four hours not one person in the senior disaster leadership team knew anything about the tornado?? And nobody seems to think this is a problem. They using the lack of information as an excuse
And the story keeps talking about Captain Russell contacting this one and that one. He was in the office by himself during an emergency? Where was the "Command **team**". Remember 4 hours passed....and is still one person calling around???

She should apologize as Fitzgerald, Mitchell and DAguilar should apologize for dragging private citizens into house discussions.
And forget the House. This is NOT the way to tell a worker to do a better job.
