Our numbers are meaningless. We lost the opportunity to gather proper data and perform any form of meaningful analysis. Imagine, the only people recorded as dying from COVID are those who died in a hospital system that is overwhelmed at 100 COVID patients.
That said theres nowhere in the workd where Omicron has proven to cause excessive deaths. The big news from the UK and the US is that 1 person died in December

Nowhere in the world has anyone reported escalating Omicron death rates. Our situation is slightly different because of the high rate of comorbidities. So its time to watch but no time to be hysterical. It may be that Omicron is having such a low impact because the most vulnerable have unfortunately succumbed to earlier variants
I dont think we have too much to worry about with Omicron. The stories always focus on case count and not much else. But with testing quadrupled, that statistic is warped. The one fly in the ointment is our high incidence of lifestyle diseases, so they do need to continue monitoring just in case

the first part of doing *all we can* is acknowledging that the tourists we love are the cause of the case rise. Everytime they come in droves they bring a new variant we have no immunity to and cases go up.
Acknowledging that alone would mean our approach to the fight would change, more emphasis would be placed on the places tourists congregate and their interaction with Bahamian staff. Our controls would have greater impact.
The alternative is to pretend tourists dont spread COVID, allow the virus to escape the hotels, spread into the community then blame Bahsmians *who cant behave*. How's that 2nd approach worked for us so far?

Theyre now asking asymptomatic people to test at home. Most of these people are testing because theyre scared out of their wits. No symptoms. The case count theyre fanning the hysteria with is contrived
