The risk of a new variant is always there...as was the risk of a pandemic before Covid...you can ccontinue to keep supporting relatively useless measures until the next thing inevitably comes along, or we can go back to living our lives as we did in 2019, like most other countries are doing now.
To prove a point, this was probably the most 'pro mask' study out of the many that have been done....showing a 9% reduction! -https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-02457-y
The (probably better) Danmask study showed a negligible difference. There is a danger in giving people a false sense of security. transparency and honesty and allowing people to make decisions for themselves as they have done pre covid is where the rest of the world is going now. Time to let go!
Her point about mask wearing is literally false information. if its not a properly fitted N95+ mask that's worn and changed regularly then it will have little to no effect. There are numerous studies now. As a news outlet you should be asking for evidence for these claims. Lots of people have been wearing masks, they still got covid....omicron has made them next to useless.
it can't be eradicated, it becomes/is becoming endemic, like every other coronavirus before. the rest of your comment makes no sense...yes vaccinate, but that doesn't prevent infection or spreading. it limits the likelihood of serious disease.
Locking down has done very little to solve any countries problem. We are past that point now. It damages mental health, the economy and creates a backlog of other health issues.

covid is endemic, not seasonal, travel is somewhat irrelevant once the virus has reached a country.
