Bahamians ought to have been able to cut the Baha Mar deal in the first place. Our collective (banks, government, entrepreneurs, institutions etc.) attitude must change to empower Bahamians to access finance locally and worldwide to invest in the Bahamas. Until we move in that direction - we are not moving forward!
Our culture - we allow these suits to come into the Bahamas and use the Bahamas banking system to establish deals. The banks of course will give foreigners deals that Bahamians will never see the light of day. Is it wishful thinking that Bahamians ought to have been able to cut the Baha Mar deal and other deals - instead of foreigners or will folks say - that attitude is xenophobic - I don't think so! Further, the Baha Mar deal and many others could have gone in any of the family islands instead of New Providence. That decision ought to have been made by our centralize mentality politicians. They continue to over satiate New Providence and not diversify the country. Every country need foreigners and foreign investors ' but we should not give away everything!
No one is saying – there is a dislike for foreigners coming in to help. All that is said simply – Bahamians could have done the job! Separate your dislike for the guy (sure he has issues ' who doesn't?) - but look at what he said about this issue – that is all.
Further ' when hurricanes has devastated areas in the Caribbean and Bermuda - BEC Bahamas was there - helping to restore power! The narrative about BEC Bahamas help was always - "professional help from BEC Bahamas" - totally satisfied! I dare say too - the same about BTC! So give it up for our guys and cut the crap!
Don't be daft ' where in the world do you know that politicians are not corrupt!? The bigger or more affluent the more the corruption - in so called "developed societies" [sic] - the corruption almost seems legal! Insomuch as to say the least ' we have similar habits. In addition we also have the colonial, house boy, slave mentality - that still haunts our concept as a people. The man, or the foreigner can do it better than us - so we most often bring them in - in lieu of our own ' how do we get past that syndrome? We might disagree with Mr. Miller or whoever..., for whatever reason - but in this matter ' he is correct!
To the government (PLP) and opposition (FNM) - please work together in a bipartisan way to help Bahamians affected by the calamity of hurricane Matthew ' We the people that are devastated; really need all the help we can get! Mr. Christie - give Bahamians duty free on all building material - house furniture and other items needed for living. No duty, VAT, stamp tax or any other charges - and yes! declare a national emergency. This is the right time to be patriotic and help one another!
We are looking at the wrong scenario about the central bank of The Bahamas; as with central banks in every country worldwide. The Bahamas Central Bank Governor is just an employee of the real owner of the central bank. The Bahamas central bank is not owned by the government of the Bahamas or the Bahamian people! You must first find out who owns the central bank of the Bahamas – then you can understand who sets bank policy – to the government - via the bank governor - to set interest rates - tax the people – offer loans to the government etc. what a sad state for VDSheep [sic]
Mr. Branville McCartney – as I mentioned to you some time ago – send your candidates into the forty-five or so constituencies now! They can get to know the people on an individual basis; they can work to gain the confidence of the people. Not six weeks before the next election. You got a good showing the last time - now you need to get members elected! The DNA has to work for it. I believe; if each DNA candidate start working in their consistencies from now – when the election is called you will get at least 15 members in parliament. I hope the FNM will get about the same as will the PLP. It looks like – at least a collation government; this next time around. Do it man!
These are the days of liberal democracy extremism' where you can say almost anything about anyone ' but when it (extremist liberal democracy) is applied to people of power (politicians especially ' who should be the protectors of that so called democracy card) - they get uncomfortable when the caper is against them. They will send the cultural police or whatever to get you! People aught to realise that democracy is only between politician and by extension the moneyed elites.
