Where are they getting the guns from? Why is this still such a mystery? Why can't we stop the flow of guns into this country??? When was the last time someone got arrested as part of a gun smuggling ring?
Oh, and when it comes to all this foolishness about comparing the Bahamas to the recent France situation – not unless Haitian people suddenly decide to adopt a radical ideology of global domination achieved through the use of fear and destruction and spread through a sophisticated propaganda system that makes use of cutting edge modern technology. The people didn't attack Paris because they were immigrants, they did it because they were terrorists. That they happened to enter the country as asylum seekers speaks to a question of mode of travel, not an identity in and of itself. I swear, Bahamians are the silliest people in the world sometimes.
What a load of alarmist nonsense. I mean, seriously people. All this ruling did is uphold exactly what is says in our Immigration Act and our Constitution. It is not some conspiracy to flood the country with illegals, it is the affirmation of the rule of law. If we don't like the laws, we should change them. There is no excuse for our government breaking our own laws, and all this ruling did was point that out. More lawyers should be doing this kind of work, challenging the powers that be to live up to the spirit and the letter of the law rather than just enforce it selectively or however they feel like. The biggest threat to this country in the next 20 years is not illegals, it is not crime, it is the arbitrary use of power by the increasingly bold little would be dictators in our political class.
Cas0072 - that is an awfully naive statement. Of course "good guys", or rather "innocent guys get accused of a laundry list of serious offenses in this country. It happens all the time. We have a police force that simply MUST be seen to be winning the fight against crime and maintaining a high "detection rate". The reality is that once you are accused of one crime, rightfully or not, you stand to be accused of others when they can't find the real perpetrator. The attitude is "Aww, well, one fella around here was accused before, it must be him." For God sake, the last two charges this man was accused of happened while he was in jail! Did you not read the story? What kind of serious evidence do you suppose led them to charge an incarcerated man with two crimes committed miles and miles away from the prison where he was being held?
Aww boy. Somebody said Izmirlian get juice? ...Newsflash: We all get juice, swung around like a rag doll yet again - and by our own kind too. Welcome to the People's Republic of The Bahamas, as brought to you by the PLP and their very non-Bahamian paymasters.
My2cents - the statement "Our law enforcement officers uphold the constitution" is probably the most laughable comment I have ever seen on here, and that is saying something. What rock you been living under my friend? Police, defense force and immigration officers routinely mete out violence gratuitously, elicit false confessions through intimidation, violate the mandates of the very laws that give them their powers in the first place... And when they hurt someone excessively and can't hide it, they simply charge that person with a crime so they can spirit him away from public view. Please explain to me how a young Haitian man could be charged with resisting arrest and attacking an officer in Eleuthera, and both the police and immigration claim he was shot in the face accidentally when attempting to disarm an officer, only for the official medical report to reveal that he was shot in the back of the head! You telling me they didn't shoot this man while he was running away, and lied after to cover it up? What we do in the Bahamas is gangster law enforcement. Uphold the constitution? C'mon man - get real.

Its kinda right there in plain English in the doctor's report. He got shot in the back of the neck, end of story. They made up a story about him being shot in the face, presumably to cover it up.
